In Reception we had some very important animals to care for and look after. The children loved learning about the life cycle of a hen. The children were in awe when the chicks started to hatch, and they spent a long time watching and waiting. The children enjoyed spending time with the chicks and even holding them.
We have also been writing our own story ideas after reading the story of Rosie's Walk. The children made up their own endings and worked very well as a team sharing their ideas.
It was Goldcrests' class assembly on the 8th May! We spoke about various topics we have been learning about recently. For example, we spoke about James Rizzi's artwork, Victorian schools and our book in English which is 'The Secret of Black Rock'. We also sung an Italian song we'd been learning which was called 'In My Town'. We even added our own actions! All of the children worked so hard for this assembly. Well done, Goldcrests!
This afternoon, Year 3 performed their Roman assembly to parents, and what a wonderful performance it was. The hall was transformed as the Romans took over the school, with the children showcasing fantastic costumes, confident acting, and excellent singing. We were incredibly proud of the enthusiasm and effort shown by all of the children, who performed with great confidence and energy. It was a thoroughly enjoyable assembly for everyone involved, and the catchy songs are certainly still ringing in our ears!
As part of our Art topic, Year 4 have been exploring the beauty and patterns of Islamic Art. Using clay and a range of sculpting tools, the children created their own decorative tiles featuring relief designs inspired by the artwork we studied. They then carefully painted their tiles, using colours and patterns that reflected the images and styles they had been exploring in class.
Year 5 had a magical day at the Harry Potter Studios, where they discovered how movie costumes are brought to life. During a special costume workshop, the children learned some behind‑the‑scenes secrets about how designers create outfits for different characters. They even had the chance to distress a costume themselves, using real techniques to make fabric look old, worn, or weathered.
After the workshop, the children explored the studios, where they saw real props, sets, and costumes from the Harry Potter films. From the Great Hall to Diagon Alley, the visit helped bring the world of Hogwarts to life and inspired plenty of excitement and curiosity back at school.
Last week marked a huge milestone for our Year 6 pupils as they successfully completed their KS2 SATs. We are incredibly proud of the resilience, determination and positive attitudes they demonstrated throughout the week.
To help everyone feel prepared and energised each morning, we ran a special SATs Breakfast Club. This gave the children the opportunity to start their day with a good meal while enjoying time together as a team, helping to build confidence and calm any nerves before each test.
After every test, the children were rewarded for their hard work with a well-deserved biscuit (or “cookie,” as they preferred to call them!), which became a lovely daily highlight and a chance to celebrate their efforts.
On Thursday afternoon, the celebrations continued as the children were presented with their leavers’ hoodies; an exciting moment marking the beginning of their transition towards the end of primary school. To make the occasion even sweeter, each child also enjoyed a Krispy Kreme doughnut as a special treat.
We rounded off the week on Friday with a fantastic Year 6 picnic on the field. The children brought in their own snacks and spent the afternoon relaxing, laughing and enjoying each other’s company after a busy and successful week.
Well done, Year 6...you have shown such maturity and teamwork, and we couldn’t be prouder!
