Nursery
Our Nursery children have been busy strengthening their fine motor skills in lots of fun and engaging ways. These activities are helping them build the hand muscles they need for confident pencil grip and for manipulating small objects with increasing control.
Reception
In Reception, several children enthusiastically shared some of their wonderful recent experiences. This created a fantastic opportunity for everyone to practise their oracy skills, asking thoughtful questions, speaking clearly, and listening attentively to their friends.
Using their pincer grip to manipulate the small objects.
Mark making in the home corner.
Making a pattern using different buttons.
A child shared their lovely experience of visiting Lapland. The children asked lots of questions, most importantly if they had seen Santa and his reindeers!
For homework, this child created a wonderful picture about her travels to Australia. This included all the animals she had seen. She had written all the animals names.
Year 2 have been busy mathematicians this week!
We explored a wide range of 2D and 3D shapes, sorting and naming them with growing confidence. The children learned how to count sides and vertices on 2D shapes and even had a go at drawing their own. Today, they especially enjoyed discovering and investigating lines of symmetry.
Next week, we’re excited to continue our learning by counting faces, edges, and vertices on 3D shapes!
🌍 Year 3 Geographers Get Creative!
This week, Year 3 have been hard at work producing colourful, eye-catching posters all about capital cities as part of their Geography topic. The children loved researching fascinating facts about landmarks, transport and population, and their knowledge really shines through.
Their fantastic posters are now on display around the classroom, bringing a burst of colour- and geography expertise- to the room.
Well done, Jays and Redwings… you’re becoming incredible young geographers!
Some of our children have been taking part in food therapy sessions, where trying new foods becomes a fun, sensory adventure! They explore different textures—squishing, crunching, and tasting a variety of foods. Each bite is a new experience, helping them discover and enjoy new flavours in a playful way.
Year 6 Falcons Class Assembly: Bridges and Engineers
Last week, our Year 6 class delivered a fantastic assembly on bridges and the engineers who design them, performed exclusively for the parents and siblings of our pupils. The children shared fascinating facts about famous structures from around the world, demonstrated different bridge types, and explained the science behind what makes them strong and stable. They also showcased the impressive model bridges they had designed and built in class, highlighting their creativity, teamwork, and growing confidence as young engineers. It was wonderful to see how proudly they spoke and performed, and the audience’s smiles said it all. We are incredibly proud of their hard work, enthusiasm, and the maturity they showed throughout the project.
See below the hard work our pupils put into making their amazing bridges.
🎄 Year 3 Carols & Mince Pies! 🎶
We’re excited to invite families to a festive Year 3 celebration on Tuesday 16th December, 2:45–3:15pm in the school hall! Year 3 will enjoy their very own cosy Christmas concert this year- complete with festive songs, hot drinks and mince pies.
Children (and grown-ups!) are welcome to wear Christmas jumpers or accessories to help spread the cheer. Each pupil will receive two tickets for the event- please remember to bring yours along, or feel free to pass them on if you can’t make it.
We can’t wait to share this joyful celebration with you!
St Mary’s Church in Aspley has a new vicar, Revd David Jones, and as part of his first term he’s reaching out to hear from the local community. They are conducting a community survey, and your voice matters – whether you attend church or not!
We obviously use this church to perform our KS2 Christmas Carols , so we’ve agreed to help and share the survey link below:

As the darker winter months arrive, we are reminding all our children and families about the importance of being visible on the journey to and from school. Please encourage your child to wear bright or reflective clothing, and make sure bikes and scooters have working lights and reflectors. Staying visible helps keep everyone safe on the roads. Thank you for helping us promote safe travel for all our Belswains pupils!
A polite reminder to be aware of our neighbours when parking on the roads around school. Please respect the usual road parking conditions, such as not restricting access to driveways. The yellow zigzag lines outside school should also not be parked on. Thank you for your assistance in keeping our school boundaries safe for all our pupils and families. Thank you.

Ospreys Soaring in the Herts Compete League!
Our KS2 Osprey team have made a fantastic start in the Herts Compete league as they battle their way toward a place in the finals. With two brilliant 4–1 wins against Two Waters and Broadfield Academy, the team have shown real skill and teamwork on the pitch.
We’ve enjoyed some spectacular goals- including an unforgettable strike from the halfway line- and some outstanding saves from our goalkeeper.
We’d like to give a huge thank you to our wonderfully supportive parents- especially the parent who stepped in and became a sensational referee! Your enthusiasm makes such a difference. And of course, an extra-special thank you to Mr Hobbs and Miss Bradbury, whose dedication, encouragement and brilliant coaching we are incredibly lucky to have. Here’s to more exciting matches ahead… let’s see what 2026 brings for the Ospreys!
