At Belswains Primary School, we believe in giving our pupils a voice and an opportunity to contribute to the life of the school. The School Council is a group of pupils who are elected by their peers to represent their class's views, working together and with Mrs Hood to improve our school community.
How It Works:
Representation: Each class has nominated 2 pupils to be their school council representatives. These representatives act as the voice of their classmates in school council meetings.
Meetings: The school council meets regularly to discuss ideas, raise concerns, and plan activities that benefit everyone in the school.
Projects and Initiatives: Some past and upcoming projects include organizing charity events, improving school facilities, and promoting healthy eating.
Our School Council Representatives:
We're proud to introduce our school council representatives for this year. Please see the list below:
Year 1: Ffion & Rudi
Year 2: Holly & Filip
Year 3: Max & Seth
Year 4: Alex & Flynn
Year 5: Codie & Zaeem
Year 6: Maks & Safa
We look forward to seeing the positive changes our school council will bring this year. If you have any ideas or feedback, please don't hesitate to share them with your class representatives.
This year, Belswains Primary School has received an impressive 145 applications for our 60 available places. This overwhelming interest reflects the strong reputation our school has built and the quality of education we provide.
In a time when many schools are facing challenges due to declining birth rates, we are incredibly proud to see so many families choosing Belswains Primary School for their children's education. This success is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff, the support of our community, and the enthusiasm of our pupils.
We are committed to continuing our efforts to provide an excellent educational experience for all our students.
We are thrilled to share that our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) recently received excellent feedback from an advisor from Herts for Learning. The advisor was highly impressed with the exceptional teaching and learning environment we provide at Belswains Primary School.
Here are some highlights from the advisor's report:
Attentive and Engaging Adults: Our staff members are praised for being attentive to children’s needs, actively participating in discussions, and using models to effectively demonstrate explanations. This commitment ensures that each child receives the support they need to thrive.
Interactive Learning Walls: During the visit, one child proudly explained how they learned to write the grapheme 'sh' by using our interactive learning wall. This example illustrates the impact of our resources in supporting children's independent learning.
The advisor was so impressed that they took photos to share with other schools, showcasing our high expectations and innovative practices in EYFS.
We are incredibly proud of our EYFS team and the enriching environment they've created for our pupils. Keep up the great work!
We were kindly gifted artwork from a local illustrator. Eve Broadhurst beautifully drew all the birds from our class names. We think they look amazing and really brighten up the classroom doors. The children have enjoyed seeing their class namesakes in print. Above are just some of the illustrations she gave us. If you could like to take a look at her other work, please do check out her website: https://www.evebroadhurst.co.uk/
On Wednesday, we had the pleasure of celebrating World Religion Day at Belswains Primary School. This special day provided our pupils with the opportunity to bring in artifacts or symbols from their own religions and share them with their classmates.
The purpose of World Religion Day is to foster peaceful understanding and appreciation between different faiths and cultures. At Belswains, we cherish our diverse community and believe that celebrating each other's differences helps us create a safe environment where children feel comfortable asking questions and learning from one another.
The day was filled with insightful presentations, where students shared stories and traditions from their respective backgrounds. This not only enriched our knowledge but also strengthened our bonds as a community. We are proud to support such initiatives that promote inclusivity and understanding, ensuring that every child feels valued and respected.
Thank you to all the families who contributed to making this day a success.
"Too Good to Be True? Protecting yourself and others from scams online."
This February 11th, we are diving into the theme “Too Good to Be True?” for Safer Internet Day 2025. It's a day to help young learners think twice and stay safe in the online world.
Through exciting activities and discussions, children will learn:
How to spot online tricks, scams, and fake offers.
Why not everything they see online is what it seems.
The importance of asking for help when something feels “too good to be true.”
Together, let’s build smarter, safer internet explorers who know how to spot the truth online.

Last May we told you we had a installed a clothing recycling bin. The school have received £200 so far from this so far! Thank you!
Our large green bin is situated next to the School Office. We partner with Astra Recycling as they will also pay the school for items that are branded with the school logo. Any items that are not re-saleable etc get recycled into insulation material, so very little will end up in landfill.
Therefore we ask that when sorting out uniform etc, if items are in good condition and can be donated to the PTA, please continue to leave those items in their collection bin. Any items that may have seen better days can now be recycled in the green clothing bin and still benefit the school.
Everything added to the bin must in in plastic bags please i.e. no loose items.
Items that can be recycled are:
· Clothing
· Branded clothing inc. school uniform
· Shoes
· Bed linen (sheets and duvet covers)
· Accessories such as: belts, gloves, hats, handbags
· Soft toys
You cannot recycle:
X Duvets
X Cushions
X Carpets
X Curtains
X Material off cuts
A further reminder that we have a lost property bin outside the school office. Any items that are labelled we endeavour to return to pupils. If items are misplaced, please do come and rummage in the bin at drop off or pick up. With 400 pupils there is often a lot of lost property, we cannot stress enough the importance of labelling all items and checking regularly that those labels are still in place.
At the end of term, all items in lost property are donated to the PTA shop or recycled.
