BELSWAINS NEWS
FRIDAY 22nd NOVEMBER 2024
This week our assembly was all about being bright and being seen, particularly as the hours of reduced sunlight. This assembly was all about teaching our pupils how to stay safe in the winter. Ask your child advice on how to stay safe, but here are some clues...
By Day
During the day always wear clothes with bright colours. Fluorescent material is even better as it helps us to really stand out and be seen during the day. This material also helps us to be seen in the evening before it is dark.
By Night
Fluorescent material does not work in the dark! We need to wear something reflective so we can be seen when car headlights are shining towards us. Even a small patch of reflective material can help drivers to see us from very far away.
The theme of anti-bullying week this year was chose respect. Last week, every class from Nursery to Year 6, took part in activities linked to respecting everyone and celebrating each others differences. Activities included role-play activities, writing anti-bullying songs and raps, poems and posters. Assemblies which took place during the week were also focused on anti-bullying and respecting others.
Please see below some fantastic 'Friendship Soup' recipes Year 5 have created.
Year 3 students embarked on an artistic journey back to the Bronze Age, diving into history by making Bell Beaker pottery. The children spent a wonderful afternoon crafting and decorating their own clay pots, inspired by the ancient Bell Beaker culture.
The activity not only enriched their understanding of history but also allowed them to express creativity and hone their artistic skills. It was a joy to see their enthusiasm and the unique designs they came up with.
Thank you to all our families who generously donated items in our house colours, to our Christmas raffle. We are looking forward to seeing you all at our Christmas Market on Saturday.
As the festive season approaches, we are excited to share with you the various activities and events planned for Christmas at Belswains Primary School. We believe that this time of year is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate together as a school community.
DECO DAY
Deco Day will take place on Friday 13th December. The pupils will have fun listening to Christmas music and every class will take part in creating festive activities. These include Christmas baubles, decorations, and calendars, to name just a few. All pupils will be able to share these with you at the end of term.
CHRISTMAS CARDS
If your child would like to send cards to their friends or teachers, please make sure that the name and class is clearly written on the envelope. There is a post-box by the main office.
SANTA RUN
As part of running club, on Tuesday 10th December, the children will be taking part in a 1km run in aid of the Herts Young Homeless charity. This charity works to support vulnerable young people in Hertfordshire. If you would like to donate towards this charity, the link is as follows: https://hertsyounghomeless.enthuse.com/cf/belswainschool.
On Wednesday 18th December pupils will take part in the 'Active mile Santa run' to promote festive fitness across our school.
CHRISTMAS JUMPER DAY
On Wednesday 18th December, pupils can wear a festive jumper to school instead of their usual jumper/cardigan, the rest of their uniform should be worn as usual. Please do not feel the need to buy something new, pupils can be creative and decorate a top for this occasion. Alternatively, you can purchase a pre-loved Christmas jumper at the PTA pre loved shop.

On Thursday 12th December, our KS2 carol concerts are taking place at St. Mary’s church in Apsley. Jays, Owls, Hawks and half of Red Kites will have their performance at 11:30am. Mrs Claridge has started the school tours this term for our September 2025 intake. Please contact the office on admin@belswains.herts.sch.uk if you would like to come and see all the amazing things we do at Belswains Primary school. Applications for Reception places opened on Tuesday 1st November.
When parking to drop off or pick up pupils, please be mindful not to block driveways or access to properties. Our neighbours and community work with us and support our endeavours so let’s please show them the same respect.
As part of our commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all students at Belswains Primary School, we kindly ask that you inform the school office if someone other than the usual guardian will be picking up your child. Please try and do this before the end of the school day; it can be challenging for class based staff to access messages just before pick up.
Please follow these simple steps:
Notify the Office: Call us on 01442 264 324 or email on admin@belswains.herts.sch.uk as soon as you know about the change in pick-up arrangements.
