It has been wonderful to see the excitement of children arriving on their special day! We’d like to remind families of our updated birthday celebration rule.
Children will no longer be permitted to bring in toys, sweets, or treats to share with classmates on their birthdays.
Instead, each child will enjoy a non-uniform day on their birthday as their special treat. We hope this continues to make birthdays feel exciting and unique for the children, while also keeping everyone safe.
BELSWAINS BURGER DAY
On Thursday 2nd October, we’ll be celebrating School Census Day at Belswains with our much loved Burger Day!
Children can choose from Beef, Chicken, or Quorn burgers, alongside our usual favourites including jacket potatoes and a selection of cold options, there’s truly something for everyone.
Whether your child regularly enjoys school meals or just wants to try the healthy and tasty food freshly prepared by HCL, this is the perfect day to join in!
CENSUS DAY- WHAT IS IT?
It's a important day in the primary school calendar, as the government will use the numbers of the children who eat school meals on this day to identify the level of funding each school receives. Put simply, the more children eating a school lunch on this day, the more funding our school can access.
Mrs Claridge has begun leading school tours this term. If you know someone who is considering joining our community, please let them know that they can contact the school office on 01442 264 324 or via email at admin@belswains.herts.sch.uk to arrange a visit.
We are delighted to share that admissions to Belswains continue to be strong, bucking the national trend of falling pupil numbers due to the lower birth rate. This is a wonderful reflection of the school’s profile and reputation within our community.
For Reception 2025, we received an impressive 151 applications for just 60 places.
Thank you for your patience and understanding while our building work continues.
At present, The Nest is undergoing improvements. The old insulation is being removed and replaced with new insulation, in preparation for the new cladding to be installed.
Please note that the work area changes daily. If the section being worked on is blocking a pathway, we kindly ask you to take an alternative route around the area.
We appreciate your continued support and cooperation during this time.
With Year 6 comes great responsibility, and we are delighted to share that our new House Captains have been announced this week!
As we are a double-form entry, each class will have House Captains who will lead for half of the academic year. This ensures that more pupils have the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and take on this important role. We look forward to seeing the positive impact they will make in their leadership roles this year.
We are excited to let you know the names of our new House Captains:
Dunstable: Toby and Ruby
Whippendell: Kevin and Lucia
Longsrping: Parker and Lyra
Ashridge: Amelie and Samuel
Heartwood: Darcey and Henry

We are looking for a new Parent Governor to join our school’s Governing Body and bring fresh skills, interests, and ideas to support Belswains Primary School. You don’t need any formal qualifications, full training will be provided. What matters is an interest in education and a willingness to give a little time to help the school thrive. All ages are welcome, including retired grandparents who’d like to get involved.
Governors are expected to:
Attend at least one full Governing Board meeting each term.
Join a subcommittee (meeting termly).
Visit the school between meetings to gain a real understanding of how the school works and track progress towards its goals.

When? 2nd October 19.30-20.30
Where? Year 4 Owls Classroom (first one at the bottom of the pathway—follow the biscuit crumbs)
Access via: Through the classroom door on the playground.
Why come? We really do need your help to raise money for your child’s school. There are all sorts of jobs that need doing, some big, some small, and lots you can even do from the comfort of your own sofa.
Come for the biscuits, stay for the company and maybe even get involved in shaping some fun plans for the year ahead.
