As we reach the end of another busy half term, we would like to say a huge thank you for your continued support.
It has been a very full and exciting few weeks in school! The children have been busy with their learning, enjoying school trips, taking part in wonderful productions, and representing our school out in the community. Our visit to a local care home was especially special, as the children helped to lift the spirits of local residents with their smiles, kindness and enthusiasm.
It has been truly amazing to see our children shine, we are incredibly proud of them all.
As the festive period approaches, we recognise that this time of year is celebrated in many different ways. We would like to wish all our families a happy, restful and enjoyable break, whatever and however you choose to celebrate. We hope the holiday brings time to relax, recharge and enjoy being together.
We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Tuesday 6th January, when school reopens.
Our Nursery children delighted their families by performing a selection of festive carols. The 3- and 4-year-olds were incredibly brave as they confidently stood on the stage, sang with enthusiasm, and clearly had lots of fun. Their performance spread plenty of festive cheer and made everyone smile. Well done, Nursery! 🎄✨
Last week, our Reception children delighted their parents with their Nativity performance, The Sleepy Shepherd. The children worked incredibly hard to learn their lines, songs, and actions, and their dedication truly showed. They performed with confidence and enthusiasm, putting on a fantastic show that was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. Well done to all our young performers!
This week in Reception, the children have been busy creating their own snowman models using playdough and a variety of small parts such as sticks and buttons. They carefully rolled, shaped, and assembled their models, developing their fine motor skills and creativity along the way.
The children were inspired by a well-known object – a snowman! They talked about what they could see and how to recreate the features using the materials provided. It was wonderful to see their ideas come to life as they added details and made each snowman unique.
Year 1 Stick Man Trip
Year 1 had a wonderful day out travelling by train to the theatre to watch Stick Man. For many children, this was a brand-new experience and they were very excited to travel together on public transport. The children thoroughly enjoyed the performance, joining in with the songs and following Stick Man’s adventures with great enthusiasm. It was a fantastic day full of fun, learning, and memorable experiences for everyone involved.
This week, Year 2 had a wonderful time preparing Eton Mess puddings as part of their Remarkable Recipes topic. They made a delicious base using yoghurt and meringue, then chopped and mashed strawberries, pineapple pieces and slices of peach. Now that they know how to make them, we hope they will enjoy recreating this tasty treat at home for their families.
The children were delighted to receive a Christmas gift of new books from the PTA, with one to open each day. On Deco Day, they enjoyed making cards, calendars, and a beautiful snow globe. We are sure they will be proud to share their creations with their families.
This year, we introduced 'Mince Pies and Carols' for our Year 3 pupils and their families. All 60 children looked festive and fantastic in their Christmas jumpers and sounded amazing. The performance was excellent, and we have received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback. Due to its success, this event will now be added to our annual calendar.
Year 4- Go Wild with Polar Bears! 🐻❄️
Over the past three weeks, Year 4 have been diving into the fascinating world of Polar Bears, linking their learning closely with their class text Leaf. Inspired by famous nature reporters such as Sir David Attenborough and Steve Backshall, the children fully immersed themselves in the role of wildlife experts. This exciting learning journey culminated in the creation of impressive information reports, packed with technical language, clear sub-headings, accurate use of apostrophes for plural nouns and well-chosen fronted adverbials. The children worked incredibly hard, and the final pieces look absolutely fantastic. A huge well done to Year 4 for their enthusiasm, effort and outstanding work- we’re so proud of you! 🌟
🛠️ DT: Designing Packaging with Purpose
In Design and Technology, the children have been exploring the different types of information found on product packaging. They then put their learning into practice by designing and creating their own packaging, carefully including key details such as bar-codes, sell-by dates, ingredients lists and storage instructions to inform customers. The children showed great attention to detail and creativity, producing some excellent and realistic designs. Well done for your thoughtful and imaginative work!
Years 4, 5 and 6 enjoyed a special visit to St Mary’s Church, where they performed a lovely carol service for parents. The children sang a selection of traditional carols and some more up to date variations, while Year 6 confidently narrated the Nativity story. It was a wonderful celebration and a memorable experience for everyone, made even more special by the beautiful setting of the church.
Year 5 and 6 have well and truly been getting into the Christmas spirit by taking part in a fun-filled Deco Week packed with creative activities.
In Year 5, pupils created festive cards using a wide range of materials, designed colourful calendars using an exciting paint-splatting technique or created patterns using felt tip pens, and made Christmas hats ready to wear while enjoying their Christmas dinner. They also crafted decorations using lollipop sticks and developed their sewing skills to add festive detail. To top off a wonderful week, the children were delighted by a surprise visit from the reindeer, making the experience even more magical.
In Year 6, they have been busy showcasing their creativity through a range of festive activities. They used marbling techniques to produce stunning nighttime rooftop scenes for their Christmas cards, as well as designing calendars that highlight elements of each season. Pupils also crafted decorative pipe cleaner ornaments and made their own Christmas hats, ready to wear while enjoying their Christmas dinner. The activities were a wonderful opportunity for the children to explore different artistic techniques while celebrating the festive season.
We were so excited when Santa’s reindeer came to visit us at Bleswains!
It was a truly magical experience and such a special surprise for the children. Thank you so much to the PTA for arranging this wonderful activity and for all the time and effort that went into making it happen. The children were full of excitement, smiles, and festive cheer, an unforgettable experience for the children.
⚽ KS2 Girls Football: Harriers Fly High!
On Friday 12th December, our KS2 girls’ football team, the Belswains Harriers, put on an outstanding performance at home, storming to a 5–0 victory against Two Waters Primary School!
Poppy was in outstanding form, scoring an incredible four goals, while Alex sealed the victory with a fantastic finishing goal just before the final whistle. With multiple assists and strong midfield tackles supporting our goalscorers, Lyra was deservedly awarded Player of the Match, as chosen by the Two Waters players themselves. The whole team played brilliantly, demonstrating excellent teamwork throughout, supported by some superb saves from our goalkeeper, Kiara. As this was the Harriers’ first ever competitive match, we could not be prouder of their effort, confidence and sportsmanship. An amazing achievement- well done girls! Go Harriers! 🎉

Belswains Running Club got into the festive spirit by taking part in a 1–2km Santa Run in aid of Herts Young Homeless, a fantastic local charity that supports young homeless people across Hertfordshire. Club members embraced the Christmas theme, donning Santa hats, colourful festive leggings, and cheerful jumpers as they ran together for a great cause. The event was a wonderful way to combine community spirit, seasonal fun, and support for an organisation doing vital work for young people in our local area. So far, we have raised a huge amount of £150. If you would like to donate, please use the link below.

🎄 KS2 Choir Share Festive Cheer at Water Mill House 🎶
On Thursday 18th December, our KS2 Choir visited Water Mill House Care Home to spread some festive cheer to the residents. The children sang beautifully and delighted everyone by handing out Christmas cards they had made themselves, which looked absolutely wonderful. The performance was truly moving- there wasn’t a dry eye in sight by the end! We hope this marks the beginning of a lovely partnership between Belswains and Water Mill House Care Home, and we are already looking forward to visiting again in 2026.
Well done to our choir for representing the school so thoughtfully and generously. 🌟
🎶 KS2 Choir Spread Festive Cheer at Tesco! 🎄
On Monday 15th December 2025, our KS2 choir performed at Tesco, Jarman Park, raising money for the school and spreading plenty of festive cheer along the way. The children delighted shoppers with a range of songs from our Carol Concert, along with some extra seasonal favourites. A special mention goes to our Year 6 soloists, who beautifully performed the first verse of Once in Royal David’s City, and to Tamsin from Year 6 Falcons, whose violin playing was simply stunning. The choir certainly brought lots of smiles to faces that morning!
While we were there, we were also thrilled to be awarded an incredible £1,500 after winning Tesco’s Blue Token Scheme. Thank you to everyone who supported us by placing a blue token in our school’s slot- the money will go towards something enriching for all Belswains children.
