As we come to the end of another successful year at Belswains Primary School, we would like to extend our sincere thanks to all our parents/carers, staff, governors, pupils and members of our wider school community. Your continued support has been invaluable in helping us create a positive and enriching environment for our pupils.
A special mention goes to our fantastic Year 6 cohort; you have shown resilience, enthusiasm, and a wonderful spirit throughout your time with us. As you move on to secondary school, we know you will continue to uphold the Belswains values of kindness, courage, respect, and health. We are incredibly proud of you and wish you every success in this next exciting chapter.
We hope all our families enjoy a relaxing and enjoyable summer break, filled with joy, rest, and special moments with loved ones. We look forward to welcoming pupils back for the new term on Thursday 4th September.
Kind regards
Mrs Claridge
Last week, our Nursery children enjoyed a wonderful visit to the Ashridge Estate. They had an exciting time exploring the woods, where they worked together to build their own dens using natural materials they discovered along the way. The children were thrilled to fill their bags with woodland treasures and loved sharing their finds with each other. A highlight of the day was enjoying snack time with friends in the fresh air, and of course, the journey on the minibus added to the adventure!
Last week, our Year 6 pupils took part in an unforgettable adventure at PGL Marchants Hill — and what a week it was! From rock climbing and zip lining to paddle boarding and high ropes, the children threw themselves into every challenge with energy and enthusiasm.
They worked together during team-building activities, showed incredible courage on the high ropes, and even found time to enjoy a classic campfire evening (complete with marshmallows, of course!) and a lively disco to round off the fun.
It was a week full of laughter, personal growth, and shared experiences that brought everyone even closer together. We are so proud of how our children represented the school, they supported each other, took on new challenges, and made memories that will last a lifetime.
What a brilliant way to celebrate the end of primary school!
On Thursday 3rd July, Year 2 enjoyed an educational and engaging visit to Knebworth House. The day began with an activity focused on creating a timeline of Tudor monarchs, during which the children impressed staff with their excellent historical knowledge.
Following this, pupils had the opportunity to immerse themselves in Tudor life by practising traditional Tudor writing, trying on period costumes and exploring musical instruments from the era. A highlight of the morning was a traditional knighting ceremony, where Clara proudly knighted Jorgie.
After a well-earned picnic lunch, the group headed to the adventure playground. The children (and adults alike) enjoyed the thrilling slides and play equipment.
Throughout the day, the children represented Belswains with exemplary behaviour and enthusiasm. They were a true credit to the school.
We are incredibly proud of our Year 6 pupils who have taken part in the Scholar Programme this year. This fantastic opportunity has allowed them to explore university life, raise their aspirations, and begin thinking about their future beyond primary school. As a celebration of their hard work and commitment, those who completed the programme attended a special graduation event at King’s College London, Guy’s Campus. The day included a tour of the university with current students, a university advice and guidance session, and a graduation ceremony to recognise their achievements. It’s a wonderful way to end the programme and celebrate their success!
The Government have been trailing free breakfast clubs in a number of schools over the summer term. This has yet to be rolled out across the Country and as a school we have not been advised to make any adjustments to our provision for Autumn term. Therefore, we will continue to offer a paid breakfast club option daily for 55 minutes from 7.45 until the start of school at 8.40am. Our aim has always been to keep our charges minimal, while continuing to provide an excellent service to our pupils. We continue to provide a very competitive price when compared to local primary schools, the charges from September will be £4.00, Siblings £3.50 and PPG £2.50.
We are also excited to be offering a new breakfast and lunch club provision for Nursery children, which new parents have been advised of.
We are writing to inform you of an important change to how we celebrate birthdays in school.
From September, children will no longer be permitted to bring in toys, sweets, or treats to share with their classmates on their birthdays.
Instead, we will be offering a non-uniform day for each child on their birthday as a special treat. We hope this will continue to make birthdays feel exciting and unique for the children, while also keeping everyone safe.
This decision has been made with the safety and wellbeing of all pupils in mind. Many children in our school live with serious food allergies, and bringing in edible treats, however well-intentioned, can put them at real risk.
You may have seen the tragic recent news of a schoolboy who passed away after accidental exposure to cow’s milk protein. Incidents like this are a sobering reminder of the responsibility we all share in keeping children safe.

We thank you in advance for your understanding and support with this new approach.
As the school year comes to a close, we bid a warm and heartfelt farewell to several valued members of our team. We say goodbye to our class teachers, Miss Sears (Year 3) and Mrs Jones (Reception), as well as our dedicated support staff: Miss Danks (Year 3), Miss Bhatti (Year 1), Miss Sangster (Year 4), and Miss Rossi (Year 1). On behalf of everyone at Belswains, we extend our sincere thanks for their hard work and commitment. We wish them all the very best in their next chapters, they will always remain a special part of the Belswains family.
We are also excited to share the happy news that Miss Pawson was married last weekend and will be known as Mrs Moss from September, congratulations Mrs Moss!
Finally, we are pleased to welcome back Miss Osborne to the school office, and we’re equally delighted that Mrs Freedman will be continuing in her office role on a part-time basis.
Thank you for joining us at our Open Evening! It was fantastic to see the school buzzing with excitement as children proudly shared their work with parents and carers. From colourful beach huts to intricate Egyptian tombs and impressive Greek amphitheaters, each classroom was filled with creativity, curiosity, and hard work. We loved seeing the smiles, hearing the conversations, and celebrating the brilliant learning that has taken place this term.
Thank you for being part of such a special evening!

The PTA recently held a wonderful Colour Run event that was a great success. Children had a lovely time running through clouds of colour, and adults enjoyed being part of the fun too. Thank you to everyone who came along and helped make it such a special day.
On Friday 4th July, our talented KS2 choir took to the stage to perform a spectacular showcase for families and friends. The performance was a joyful celebration of music, energy and teamwork, featuring a brilliant setlist of six songs: Living on a Prayer, Little Blue, Trolls Medley, Go the Distance, Power in Me and Hairspray Medley.
After wowing the audience of proud parents and carers, the choir treated the rest of KS2- and some very excited KS1 and EYFS siblings- to a special encore performance. Each song was delivered with enthusiasm and confidence, and it was clear how much hard work and focus the children have put into their singing this year. They have shown real commitment and passion, and we couldn’t be prouder.
From September, the choir will begin rehearsing for an exciting new project: the Young Voices 30th Anniversary Concert at Wembley Arena! We are all incredibly excited to be part of such a special event and can’t wait to get started.
A huge well done to all our choir members for their dedication, and a big thank you to the staff who have supported them throughout the year. We’d also like to say a heartfelt thank you to all the parents and guardians for their continued support of the choir- we truly couldn’t do it without you.
On Wednesday 16th July, the school was treated to a fantastic outdoor concert as our incredible iRock bands performed on the MUGA for pupils and parents. Five talented bands took to the stage, showcasing their hard work and musical skills through energetic and entertaining performances of well-known songs.
A huge thank you goes to Matthew, our brilliant iRock teacher, for his dedication and support in guiding the children throughout the year. His enthusiasm and expertise have helped inspire a love of music in so many of our pupils.
We are thrilled to announce that, from September 2025, the number of iRock bands at our school will double- giving even more children the opportunity to experience the joy of performing in a band. If you would like your child to be part of this exciting opportunity, please speak to the school office for more information.
