EYFS

The children in EYFS have settled so well into their new routines at Belswains. They have made many new friends and have even started their Phonics lessons this week! We are incredibly proud of how confidently and enthusiastically they have embraced their new school adventure.

Key Stage 1

This week in English, Year 2 have been enjoying reading their new class book. They have been exploring descriptive language by collecting adjectives to describe the characters and settings. The children then used these ideas to write their own descriptive sentences, demonstrating their growing vocabulary and creativity as writers.

This week in maths, Year 1 have been learning how to count forwards and backwards on a number line. They have explored using tens frames to support them finding one more than a number rolled on a dice. To support the children to count backwards from 10, they made number rockets and counted from 10 - BLAST OFF! 

Lower Key Stage 2

Year 4 have been busy becoming place value experts this week! We’ve explored how numbers are built using Base 10 and place value counters, and the children have been confidently partitioning numbers into their different place value groups.

They didn’t stop there- Year 4 also took on the challenge of flexible partitioning, discovering all the different ways a number can be broken apart. After building their numbers and labelling each column, pupils experimented with expanded notation to show their flexible groups.

They showed brilliant focus, teamwork and mathematical curiosity throughout. Well done, Year 4- you’ve made fantastic progress!

Upper Key Stage 2

Year 5 have started their new Science topic on Forces with enthusiasm and fun investigations.  The children have become confident young investigators, exploring the force of gravity and discovering the difference between mass and weight. Using force meters to measure a range of objects, they worked confidently in teams, developing their scientific skills of accurate recording, measuring and plenty of curiosity. It’s been a fantastic start to our Science topic — and Year 5 are already proving themselves to be thoughtful, inquisitive scientists. 

Class Assemblies

Throughout the year, each class will have the opportunity to share their learning with the school community through a class assembly. A class assembly is a special event where children can showcase their work, celebrate their achievements and demonstrate what they have been learning in class. It is a wonderful opportunity for pupils to develop their confidence, speaking and performance skills, while giving families an insight into life at school.

We are delighted to invite parents and carers to attend their child’s class assembly. Assemblies will take place on Fridays at 2:45pm in the school hall. We look forward to welcoming you and celebrating the children's learning together.
