On Thursday 6th October, six members of Year 6 went to Longdean School to learn about their job as Activity Ambassadors. We took part in many different games and activities and learned about how to help people enjoy sports. We would like to have assemblies and create posters to raise awareness about Activity Ambassadors and why they are important. Throughout the year, we will be sharing all of our hardwork with you!
Matilda, Shayan, Archie (Year 6 Red Kites) and Isabelle, Zabava and Huzaifa (Year 6 Falcons)
This week, I had the pleasure of visiting our Football Club and was delighted to see the enthusiasm, determination and teamwork on display. The girls were fully engaged in a range of activities designed to develop their football skills, including dribbling, passing and ball control.
A particular highlight was watching the girls practise their shooting. They worked hard on improving their accuracy and technique through a variety of fun challenges and games. It was wonderful to see their confidence grow as they supported one another and celebrated each other's successes. The positive attitudes, perseverance and enjoyment shown by everyone made for a fantastic session, and I look forward to seeing their continued progress throughout the year.
What the children say:
All the children are positive and we all really enjoy football club. We try our best and it doesn't matter if we lose.
I really enjoy taking part in football club. I have learnt a lot and I feel like am better than I was when I first joined.
Noor [Year 6 Redkites]
In EYFS, the children have been extremely busy and engaged in their learning. During both adult-led activities and continuous provision, they explored shape, size, capacity, and weight. The children confidently compared and discussed the sizes of different objects, demonstrating a secure understanding of mathematical vocabulary. They also focused on the numbers 1, 2 and 3, developing their subitising skills through a range of practical activities. Using manipulatives and different representations, the children showed growing confidence in recognising and representing these numbers in a variety of ways.
Ordering by size by comparing length using key vocabulary like long, short, longer and shorter.
The children have been looking at 1, 2 and 3. The children found representations around the provision and then showed us how to use manipulatives to make the number.
The children looked at grouping, making sets and matching manipulatives by shape, size and colour.
Last week, the children in Key Stage 1 had the exciting opportunity to become superheroes during their drama sessions. They were given the very important mission of saving the world from an evil villain who was chopping down all the trees to create dance floors! Fortunately, the children rose to the challenge and triumphantly defeated him by transforming into dancing plants.
The session was great fun and encouraged lots of creativity and imagination. It also helped the children learn about sustainability, including the importance of recycling, reusing materials and protecting our environment. The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and demonstrated fantastic teamwork throughout their mission.
Year 4 Become Grammar Sandwich Masters!
Our Year 4 classrooms were transformed into a bustling grammar lunch spots this week as the children got stuck into making direct speech sandwiches!
Using their delicious creations, the children learned how to organise direct speech correctly, where to place inverted commas, and how to use a reporting clause effectively. They also challenged themselves by changing the punctuation to turn speech into a statement, question, or exclamation.
The activity was fast-paced, hands-on, and great fun, with every child showing fantastic enthusiasm and determination. We were incredibly impressed by their excellent work and growing confidence in using direct speech accurately.
There was even a moment of culinary creativity! When discussing why our salami full stop belonged after the final inverted comma "bread" rather than inside the sandwich, one member of the class proudly explained that it represented the charcuterie board served alongside the sandwich. What a wonderfully posh sandwich shop we are running in Year 4!
Next time you're feeling hungry, why not pop into Year 4 and order a speech sandwich from our grammar superstars? We guarantee it will be packed with punctuation perfection!
Art with Mrs Gazza
This half term, Year 5 have been working with Mrs Gazza in their art lesson exploring the Chinese art technique of Taotie. A taotie is a gluttonous creature in Chinese mythology, which is always hungry no matter how much it eats. Its name translates to ‘legendary voracious beast’. Images of taotie appear on ancient Chinese bronze artefacts, such as masks and ritual vessels called dings. The children have been developing their skills by exploring mould-making and clay casting. Inspired by Taotie designs from ancient China, they have created detailed pieces using pattern, shape, symmetry and texture. This has been a fantastic opportunity for the children to develop their creativity and practical art skills. The children worked really hard on their designs and have produced some fantastic work, well done.

On Friday 9th October, our Year 4 pupils welcomed Mrs Maxwell for the first of our parent careers talks.
Mrs Maxwell shared insights into her role in recruitment, explaining what her job involves, the skills she uses, and how she helps people find the right careers. The children listened attentively and asked lots of thoughtful questions, demonstrating just how curious and inquisitive Year 4 are!
It was a fantastic opportunity for the children to learn about the world of work and make connections between their learning in school and future career possibilities.
A huge thank you to Mrs Maxwell for giving up her Friday afternoon to spend time with our children. We are incredibly grateful for her support and willingness to share her experiences.
If you would be willing to share your experiences and tell us a little about your job, we would be delighted to hear from you! Please contact the school office to express your interest.
On Monday 5th October, we were delighted to welcome Hayley from the Salvation Army to Belswains for our Harvest celebrations. Hayley spoke to the children about the importance of kindness, helping others and sharing what we have with those in need.
Our KS1 and KS2 pupils proudly performed Big Blue Tractor and Thank Your Lucky Stars as a way of thanking Hayley for spending time with us. Their enthusiastic singing brought plenty of smiles and made the event even more special.
We would also like to say a huge thank you to all our families for their generous Harvest donations. Together, we collected a fantastic amount of food, which Hayley was able to take back to support a local food bank in Hemel Hempstead.
What a wonderful example of our school community coming together to help others!
We really encourage children to bring fresh fruit and vegetables in for snacks (including afterschool club snacks) and in their lunch boxes. Please can we remind all parents that items that could cause choking need to be cut up. This is especially in relation to items such as grapes and small tomatoes etc. Thank you for your assistance with this.
At Belswains Primary School, we want every child to feel happy, settled and ready to learn. Good attendance and arriving at school on time help children build friendships, develop confidence and make the best possible progress.
Every school day is important! Missing school can mean missing key learning in reading, writing, maths and other exciting activities.
90% attendance means around 4 weeks of school missed over a year.
80% attendance means around 8 weeks of school missed over a year.
Just 5 minutes late each day adds up to over 3 days of lost learning across the school year.
If your child is unwell or unable to attend school, please contact the school office as soon as possible. This helps us make sure every child is safe and accounted for.
There are national rules regarding unauthorised absence from school, including holidays during term time. Taking your child out of school without authorisation may result in a penalty notice (fine).
You can find more information here:
Attendance Guidance for Parents
We understand that sometimes children and families face challenges that can make attending school difficult.
If you have any worries about your child's attendance, please get in touch. We are always happy to listen, offer advice and work together to find ways to support your child.
Thank you for working with us to give every child the best possible start.
Every day counts, and together we can make a difference!
