Hi! I'm Greg, the farmer at Bell Patch Farm.
I am the owner and operator of Bell Patch Farm, a small acreage diversified market farm in Webberville, Tx. I began farming over 20 years ago and have since managed five farms and worked on a total of ten different operations in three states with production experience including dairy, poultry, orchard crops, small grains, vegetables, urban farming, CSA's, non-profits and wholesale. Bell Patch Farm grows seasonal produce with a focus on serving local niche wholesale outlets, using sustainable inputs and practices.
How We Grow
"How do you grow food? Are you organic?"
Well, that's a very important question.
First, Bell Patch is not a certified organic farm. Organic certification is expensive. In order to cover that cost, I would have to make the food more expensive for you, and I don't want to do that. My goal is to make the farm a place of safety, refuge, life and love. That includes the people eating the food, as well as me and my family who are working the land, and the myriad critters that call the place home.
What that means...
YES we use plant based compost and leguminous cover crops as our primary fertility
YES we use cottonseed meal, kelp extract, and natural minerals for supplemental fertility
YES we use exclusion products like row cover to block pests from the crops, and least toxic options like neem oil only when necessary
YES we use biological inoculants like mycorrhizal fungi to promote plant and soil health
YES we rotate crops and plant extensive pollinator habitat and cover crops, and practice reduced tillage for soil conservation
Meanwhile.....
NO synthetic pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, or fertilizers are ever used
NO genetically modified crops are ever grown
NO municipal sewage solids are ever used
Here's what that looks like in real life!
I am dedicated to transparency in the food system. Here are the farm's operational records.
