Education: Attended and graduated from Elon College. I then received my Elementary Certification (K-8th). I also attended Rowan University and received my P-3 certification in Early Childhood Education (preschool - third grade).
Experience: I was a paraprofessional for grades K-4th, in general and special education classrooms for two years. I was also a one-on-one paraprofessional for a student with special needs. I was hired as a first grade teacher and then the following year the preschool program was started in the fall of 2001. I have been a preschool teacher ever since and Love it!
Education Philosophy: I believe all children can learn, even children with special needs, at their own pace in their own time. Learning has many aspects that include visual, auditory, attention, language and processing, and hands-on application, to name a few. But one of the most important aspects of learning is a child's social/emotional development. When a child feels loved, secure, and safe, it is only then learning will come. It is important to validate a child's feelings as well as allow them to express those feelings in a safe and appropriate manner. Learning takes many forms in a preschool classroom from having conversations, to identifying their name, to building structures, listening to stories, and participating in imaginary play. Also, creating a daily routine is important to build self help skills and confidence. I believe the teacher and parents are partners in learning and our communication is key to providing your child with the necessary tools for successful learning and growth.
