Mrs. Wilson's kindergarten class 2020-2021

Your kinder has a learning PACKET, a new one every three weeks. The next pick-up date is Wednesday, September 23, from 1-4 PM, at room 3. Please wear a mask and keep at least 6' between yourself and others. We are practicing social distancing at all times.

We are NOT collecting your child's completed work, so we do not spread germs. I recommend you do not tell your child this, and you recycle the completed work without your child's knowledge.

It's OK to go to YouTube for learning videos. There are some links below. I like all videos by Have Fun Teaching, Harry Kindergarten, and Miss Molly. To help in your search, put in "Harry Kindergarten count to 100" or "Miss Molly Sight Words". Use ABCs, Count by 10s, count to 100, sight word____, . These will help weed out the inappropriate videos. Do not let your child search without you. The links below are all good.

Kindergarten DISTANCE LEARNING SCHEDULE, beginning August 17, 2020

Time Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays

8:40-9:00 Via ZOOM. Physical Education (P.E. with Mr. S)

Kids stay on Zoom; do not log off

9:00-10:30 *English Language Arts (ELA) & Language Development (*ELD) on Zoom

(Kids will have direct instruction from Mrs. Wilson the first 30 minutes, then they will be in small break-out groups with Mrs. Wilson or the aide. They also will have independent “work time”)

10:30-11:00 recess

(Kids will log off)

11:00-12:00 Math instruction with Mrs. Wilson on Zoom

12:00-12:45 lunch (Kids will log off)

12:45-1:15 Science and/or Social Studies with Mrs. Wilson on Zoom.

1:15-1:30 ELD on Zoom

On Wednesdays, the schools traditionally have a “short” day and teachers meet together in the afternoon with the principal or other teachers. The kinder schedule is the same as M,T, Th, and Fridays except that art is the focus of the morning session, and lunch doesn’t start until 12:45, and the day is over by 12 PM unless your child stays for the ELD class ending at 12:45 PM.

*“English Language Arts”, or ELA, includes learning to read, write, listen and speak.

Kindergarten ELA includes:

• learning letters and sounds. Printing.

• blending sounds, taking apart sounds, rhyming, and playing with language

• singing, learning songs and poems

• writing letters, words, sentences

• reading over 50 words by sight (“sight words”) and reading stories with simple words.

• learning to listen and follow directions.

• learning vocabulary words and using new vocabulary in class discussions

• learning to converse with peers and adults about school topics

• listening to stories and being able to retell the events in order, with meaning

Kindergarten *ELD, or English Language Development, is especially geared towards helping students understand how English works. It often looks like ELA instruction, but ELD is for students who speak a language other than English at home.
