College Application Process
1. Apply Online: Complete the college/university online application. Make sure you PROOFREAD all of your entries! What you need: social security number; list of current courses in progress; name(s) of higher education institution(s): if you took Dual Credit courses; list of extracurricular activities.
2. Essay/Statement (if required): This should be approximately 1 page; thoughtful, creative, and especially well-written. PROOFREAD! Ask a parent or teacher to proof your grammar and spelling.
3. Request Transcripts: Send transcript through Xello.
4. ACT/SAT Scores (if required): Request online at ACT or SAT. If you requested your scores to be sent when you took the test, the college/university will already have them on file. *Waived at most all colleges through 2025.
5. Letters of Recommendation (not required by most): If you do not meet the institutional requirements, then you should request 1-2 letters from core teachers. You may request them through Xello, or you can mail them yourself. *If you chose to use the Common App, SENDedu, or UW Madison application, your letters will need to be posted by your recommender electronically. *You may be asked by your teacher to provide a ‘Recommendation Form’.
Copies: Save copies of everything for your records.

Freshmen applying for admission should meet priority or deadline dates in order to assure full consideration for admission. The undergraduate application fee is free for all campuses with the exception of UW-Eau Claire $25, UW-La Crosse $25, and UW-Madison $60.

If you may be considering a Private College do not be scared away by the ‘sticker price’. Contact each institution to discuss the possibility of financial aid, usually they come close to state school tuition.

Madison College offers an excellent variety of one-year diploma and two-year college transfer programs that are accepted by the UW System. Information describing all programs are available online.
Applications for admission to Madison College will be considered on a first-come-first-serve basis. Several programs fill up on the first day applications are accepted; therefore, early application is advised. There is NO application fee!

The University of Minnesota System, Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System have a reciprocity agreement whereby residents of one state pay in-state tuition in the other state. Students must complete a Reciprocity Application in order to be eligible for in-state tuition. The site is http://heab.state.wi.us
