Ruby Vartan, a Los Angeles-based artist with roots in Beirut and the rich cultural tapestry of her Armenian heritage, is a painter who guides viewers through a deeply personal landscape. With classical training from the Academie Libanaise des Beaux Artes, Ruby's art is a vibrant testament to her identity and desires, as well as a medium through which she explores the complex interplay between emotional and sensual realms.
Her works are distinguished by a bold abstraction of the female form, serving as both intimate self-portraits and universal symbols of feminine essence. Through her art, Ruby addresses themes of wounding and trauma, yet transforms them into narratives of healing and redemption. The physicality of her studio practice mirrors the raw emotional intensity of her work. Unafraid to tear, sew, or introduce organic materials, Ruby seeks to capture a delicate balance of vulnerability and strength. Her work is not confined to a single method, instead, it thrives on experimentation.
Ruby's journey in art has led her to exhibit across Southern California, from Launch to MOAH:CEDAR, as well as in places like New York City’s Ace Gallery, or overseas in Yerevan’s Museum of Modern Art, and as a participant in a cultural exchange program in South Korea. Each exhibition is a chapter in her story, inviting viewers to engage with a world of volatile honesty and exquisite self-expression.
