After choosing liquid oxygen as our oxidizer, we're focusing on the pump/feed systems. This will entail a pressurized Cryotank, a LOX Tank, and two valves at either end of the LOX Tank.
Michael Mercer, LOX Team Lead
Three Types of Possible Pressurized Cryotanks
Helium Pressurized Cryotank- Typically used in liquid-propelled rockets.
Hydrogen Pressurized Cryotank- Sometimes used in liquid-propelled rockets.
Nitrogen Pressurized Cryotank- Also typically used in liquid-propelled rockets.
Three Types of Possible LOX Tanks
Monel 400 LOX Tank-
Copper LOX Tank-
Brass LOX Tank-
Six Types of Possible Valves
Needle Valves Characteristics- Low Flow Rates, High Pressure, All Sizes, Easy to Throttle
Ball Valves Characteristics- High Flow Rates, Low/Medium Pressure, no larger than 6 inches, Hard to throttle
Butterfly Valves Characteristics- High Flow Rates, Low/Medium Pressure, Larger than 2 inches, Easy to Throttle
V-Ported Ball Valve Characteristics- Medium Flow Rates, Low/Medium Pressure, less than 6 inches, Easy to throttle
Poppet Valve Characteristics- Low Flow Rates, High Pressure, Generally Small, High Cycle Life
Solenoid Valve Characteristics- Low Flow Rates, Low Pressure, Generally Small, High Cycle Life
