Spelling Words

Phonics sounds & skills: ai and ay  The vowel team ai makes the long a sound and usually comes in the middle of a word, like in bait and mail. The ai sometimes comes at the beginning of a word, like in aim and aid.  The vowel team ay also makes the long a sound. AY always comes at the end of a word like in may and say. 

Irregular/High Frequency Words: Students will use words in sentences on the test.

Comprehension skill: Draw Conclusions  When readers figure out something by thinking about facts   

                                                                        and details in a story, they are drawing conclusions. 

Conventions skill: Simple and Compound Predicates: A compound predicate has two verbs. The verbs are

                                                                                                     joined by the words and or or.  

Math skill: We will use strategies to solve addition problems.  We will recognize different ways that addends can be decomposed and composed. We will write addition equations for doubles and doubles plus one facts.

Social Science/Social Studies Skills:  In Social Science,  we will begin our unit on Night Patterns, where we will observe all shapes of the moon that appear on different nights, and determine when the next full moon will appear.  In Social Studies, we will continue with our study of “Louisiana as a Colony,” where we will discuss the many different people that came to Louisiana for a better life, including the Germans.                                                                                                                                                                                                      

Homework: *All homework must be completed at home and turned in the next day!

Monday- Write spelling words 2 times each and Reading passage worksheet. Math family letter.

Tuesday- Write spelling words 2 times each and math worksheet.

Wednesday- Write spelling words 2 times and math worksheet.   

Thursday- Write spelling words 2 times each and math worksheet.

Friday- ELA, Spelling, and Math Test.
