Spelling Words

Phonics sounds & skills: oa, ow, oe  The vowel team oa makes the long o sound and usually comes in the middle of a word, like in boat and road. The oa sometimes comes at the beginning of a word, like in oat and oak.  The vowel team ow also makes the long o sound. OW usually comes at the end of a word like in show and grow. OW can also come in the middle of a word like in bowl and flown. The vowel team OE also makes the long o sound. OE comes at the end of a word like in toe. 

Irregular/High Frequency Words: Students will use words in sentences on the test.

Comprehension skill: Theme the one big idea a story is about; the meaning of a story. 

Conventions skill: Verb Tense: Different verb tenses tell what happens in the past, present or    

                                future.  Add -ed to show something happened in the past. Add will in front of the 

                                       verb to show that it will happen in the future. 

Math skill: We will find the missing number in an addition or subtraction equation (missing number in all positions) by using familiar number facts and strategies.

Social Science/Social Studies Skills:  In Social Science,  we will continue with our unit on Night Patterns, where we will complete our discussion of why we only see stars at night.  We will then discuss how stars can help us if we get lost.  In Social Studies, we will continue with our study of “Louisiana as a Colony,” where we will learn when Louisiana became a part of the USA.                                                                                                                                                                                                   

Homework: *All homework must be completed at home and turned in the next day!

Tuesday- No school due to weather

Wednesday- Write spelling words 2 times and math worksheet. Reading worksheet (parents sign)

Thursday- Write spelling words 2 times each and math worksheet.

Friday- ELA Test and Math Fluency Quiz
