Spelling Words: No Spelling Words this week
Phonics sounds & skills: Open and Closed Syllables A syllable is a word or a part of a word with one vowel sound. A closed syllable has only one vowel and the vowel is followed by one or more consonants. In a closed syllable, the vowel sound is short. Hop, kick, and fast are examples of closed syllables. An open syllable has only one vowel and the vowel sound is long. Hi, go, and she are examples of open syllables.
Irregular/High Frequency Words:
This week we will be focusing on our sight words list 6.
Comprehension skill: Compare and Contrast Compare means telling how things are the same. Contrast means telling how things are not the same. When we compare and contrast, we tell how things are alike and different.
Conventions skill: Nouns and Verbs- A noun is a person, place, thing or animal. A verb is the word in a sentence that shows the action.
Math skill: We will mentally add ten to any number or subtract ten from any number within 100. We will recognize that adding or subtracting ten changes the digit in the tens place, but the ones place remains the same.
Social Science/Social Studies Skills: In Social Science, we will continue our study of “Light, Sound and Communication” where we will review sounds and vibrations made by different objects. In Social Studies, we will continue our study on “Being a Citizen of Louisiana and the United States,” where we will review the importance of Rules and Laws, as well learn the importance of being a good citizen.
Homework: *All homework must be completed at home and turned in the next day!
