Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States. He took office on March 4th, 1861, 39 days before the start of the Civil War. Lincoln was the first ever republican president, although he held values from each political party. Lincoln was assassinated on April 15th, 1865, just 42 days into his second term.
