6th Spanish Assignment Log Q3 Q2 6th Q1 6th
ALL assignments are listed in the Assignment Log for reference AND in Google Classroom (even if we do them on paper in class).
Grades are ONLY posted in Aspen. When ABSENT, check Google Classroom.
A ZERO (0) in Aspen is an indication that an assignment is MISSING and needs to be turned in. Late, revised or redone work is accepted (and encouraged!) for full credit if your work shows an honest effort and/or skill development.

Our classroom is a safe place for ALL students. We respect, include, listen and stand up for each other. Hate and prejudice do not live in our classroom. Mimicking accents, using racially offensive nicknames, and sharing images to tease someone will not be tolerated. If you are unsure of the meaning of jokes or sayings, don't repeat them until you are certain that their history and usage do not promote hate or prejudice. Be mindful of how you treat your classmates; YOU are responsible for your words and actions, regardless of where you heard it first.
At JGMS, we embody the values of H.E.A.R.T. = Honor, Empathy, Acceptance, Responsibility and Tenacity. These values will be modeled and expected in our classroom.
Students will develop and be graded on the following skills:
Interpretive (reading and listening) 25%:
What a student understands when reading a text or listening to an audio or video. Students will need to use classroom resources and interpretation skills (educated guessing) to make meaning of the author’s message because they cannot ask the authors for clarification.
Presentational (writing and speaking) 25%:
What a student can write and speak in Spanish on familiar topics, using short sentences and simple phrases. For example, leaving a voice message, making a skit or writing an essay are presentational skills. Students have the opportunity to draft a response and/or practice before submitting.
Interpersonal (listening and speaking) 25%:
The conversational skills to ask and answer some questions, asking for clarification in the moment to negotiate meaning and provide basic details. This is where students will improve their ability to participate in spontaneous conversation.
Participation 10%: Student skills such as arriving on time and prepared to learn (Chromebook charged, agenda book, binder/folder, pen/pencil). Setting goals and work towards them. Focusing on independent or group/partner work. Contributing positively and respectfully. Giving “air time” for others to share and do not interrupt or blurt; and working on impulse control.
Grammar and Vocabulary Quizzes and VHL work 15%
VHL (Vista Higher Learning) is an online textbook we use in grades 6-12 at JGMS and BHS. Senderos 1 and Senderos 2 are the books we use at JGMS. Students will be assigned work in the VHL platform and can practice there on their own by selecting "Learning Tools" or "Assignments - Activities".
Languages bridge the divide between populations and provide cognitive advantages to speakers. They empower students to tell their own stories, understand the stories of others... The U.S. Government reports that proficiency in world languages is essential for the nation’s domestic and international success. (DESE MA Curriculum Framework - 2021)
