Summer 2020 PD

Striving for a Year of Success

School will be different in the fall regardless of whether or not we are physically present, taking part remotely or doing a combination of both. As typical classroom management strategies may no longer be feasible given social distancing guidelines, building connections and community will be more important than ever. Join us to explore ways to create a classroom environment that encourages student engagement while supporting their social, emotional, and academic needs.

  • Session 1: Monday, July 27 from 9:00 am – 10:00 am

  • Session 2: Wednesday, August 12 from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm (Session 2 is a repeat of Session 1.)

Being a Warm Demander in the Cold of Digital Space:

Creating Formative Assessments and Feedback that Motivates

Zaretta Hammond argues that frequent and targeted feedback is one of the most powerful tools that educators have to impact student learning. This spring, however, BPS teachers reported that particular challenges arise when delivering feedback and encouraging students to persist within online learning environments. In this session, we will explore strategies within our digital learning tools to provide new pathways for teachers and students to express their understanding, assess students’ needs, offer effective feedback, and differentiate instruction in physical and digital learning spaces.
