Lurgio's Mission, Values, and Vision
Mission
The Ross A. Lurgio Middle School is committed to the mission of the Bedford School District, which is to develop a community of learners who are intellectually curious, resourceful, and respectful of self and others. Academic achievement through constantly improving standards is the District’s highest priority.
Values
We believe in academic achievement and growth for all students and strive to have every student meet their academic potential.
We believe that learning happens at different paces for each student and that success, failure, setbacks, and mistakes play an important role in the educational process.
We believe that curriculum and instruction address the academic needs of our students.
We believe in supporting the social and emotional growth of all students to create an environment in which all members of our community feel safe, respected and valued.
We believe that student growth is best achieved through a mutually respectful and collaborative partnership with students and families.
We believe that learning is a lifelong process that occurs both during and beyond the school day.
Vision
The Ross A. Lurgio Middle School is a community of learners that inspires all students to achieve high academic standards. Our community is a safe environment where all students feel comfortable taking educational risks and pushing themselves beyond their comfort zones in order to engage in rich learning experiences. Our educators support the social and emotional growth of our students by providing a wide variety of services and activities that encourage all learners to see the learning process as unconstrained in time and space. We strive to help our students see themselves as lifelong learners and understand that learning is not an activity that is confined to a class period or school day. We develop common, standards-based, rigorous curricula in all academic areas in order to address the strengths and needs of all our students. We also strive to push our curricula and our learners beyond these academic needs and strengths and into areas that encourage student engagement in their own interests and exploration of their own goals. Our ultimate goal is to see that all students find success not only in their future academic endeavors, but also in their lives outside and beyond their formal educational experiences.
