The Bedford School District understands that artificial intelligence (AI) has capabilities that can enhance instruction for teachers and learning for students. We also recognize that AI can be used in ways that are counterproductive to the BSD mission and values. BSD has provided a statement on AI and can be found HERE.
Students at BHS are reminded that the school’s rules around AI are not about punishment. They are about protecting the student and their learning. Students are also reminded that the purpose of school is learning, not producing work. If students use AI for a task but haven’t learned, then the student is acting against the whole purpose.
The poster on the right is a guideline for both teachers and students when it comes to potentially using AI. If an assignment allows some level of AI use, a teacher will indicate how it can be used and why. Students are reminded that teachers are assessing skillsets and there will be times where AI could be used and other times where it cannot be used.
