Students may check out library books for two weeks. A book may be renewed if no one else has requested the book.
While the library does not fine students for overdue books, lost or damaged books will result in a bill to recover the replacement cost of the book. Additional books may not be borrowed (textbooks or books for pleasure) until lost or damaged books are found or paid for.
Books can be put on reserve using the online catalog and picked up at the circulation desk.
There is a selection of textbooks available for students to use within the library.
If you cannot find the materials you are looking for in the BHS Library, ask a staff member for help in finding these materials at other libraries.
Patrons can check the catalog of the Bedford Public Library (and all of the GMILCS libraries) and put a hold on a book with the bar code on the back of their public library card.
From the library home page, click on the link for the catalog. Log in to your account (it's the same log in as your SchGoogle account).
All library materials are due in order to check out new materials for the school year. If there are overdue materials, please follow these steps to be able to check out books.
Pay for or return your books to the BHS library
If you believe you have returned your book and this is an error, please see Mrs. Gilcreast.
If you have an overdue RAL material, please return these to RAL or a check must be made payable to RAL.
If you have an extenuating circumstance and you are unable to pay for or return the materials, you will have to schedule a meeting with your assistant principal to discuss. The library doesn't make those decisions.
If you loan a resource to another student and they lose the material, you are still responsible for borrowed materials.
Students are expected to return all library materials on time and are held responsible for all lost or damaged materials. Students are expected to behave responsibly and show respect for each other, for the resources and the facility of the Library. Students who infringe on the rights of others to work in an appropriate environment may be asked to leave.
We send two separate emails every Monday morning, one to parents and one to the student.
The parent email contains any required reading materials and/or equipment that may be overdue. The student email contains ALL materials so their privacy rights are protected.
Books and other library resources will be provided for the interest, information, and enlightenment of all people of the community the library serves. Materials are not excluded because of the origin, background, or views of those contributing to their creation.
The library will provide materials and information presenting all points of view on current and historical issues. Materials are not proscribed or removed because of partisan or doctrinal disapproval.
All people, regardless of origin, age, background, or views, possess a right to privacy and confidentiality in their library use. The library will advocate for, educate about, and protect people’s privacy, safeguarding all library use data, including personally identifiable information.
Professional journals and databases are used to select library materials such as: Novelist Plus, School Library Journal, and Follett. Others may include but are not limited to: student or teacher recommendation, Goodreads, Amazon, and national or state book award lists.
