Flipgrid is a website that allows teachers to facilitate video discussions. Teachers can pose questions on "grids", called "topics," and their students can post video responses that appear in a tiled display. Grids can be shared with classes, small groups, or any collection of users interested in a common strand of questions. Each grid can hold an unlimited number of topics and each topic can hold an unlimited number of responses. Topics can be text-based or include a resource such as an image, video, or attachment. Customizable security settings help protect student privacy.
Students can respond on their Chromebook, via the website, or even on the Flipgrid app. Students can even upload a previously recorded video. Responses can be 15 seconds to five minutes, and teachers can set a maximum recording time limit. Teachers can also allow students to record replies to classmates' responses. There are a variety of moderation features teachers can turn on or off per topic. The CoPilot feature allows more than one teacher to be a grid moderator.
Create a group in your dashboard by clicking the “+ Group” button.
Give it a name, like “Second Period Science” or “Mr. Aziz’s Homeroom”.
Add your students to it by typing in your school’s domain name—that’s everything after the “@” symbol in your email
Topics are the stimulus for conversation. Within your Topic you can include anything you would like your students to review prior to recording a video Response, such as videos and links.
Once you have set up your Grid and created your first Topic, share your Grid’s Flip Code with your students. You can copy/paste a link to your Grid in Canvas.
