Advice from former students:

  • Don't take the problem sets for granted. They're meant to help you. It doesn't matter when you do them but if you familiarize yourself with the kinds of questions that you'll be asked its almost guaranteed to boost your test grade by an entire letter. Also, try to memorize AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE- take ur time to unrstand the material rather than memorize it. No matter how complicated, everything in this class makes sense if you put thought into it. If you just try to memorize things you're more likely to stress yourself out and get questions wrong.
  • Do old pogils to help with confusing topics and do the entire problem set.
  • Complete the Labs, they are the most useful thing in the world. Dont cheat your way through them either, figuring them out on your own actually helps a ton and can help you understand the unit s lot better
  • I would recommend finding full practice exams online, and completing them as if they were the actual AP exam. This is one of the ways I prepared for the exam during April break and it was very helpful, especially with developing a sense of timing during the test.
  • Do the PS's and actually study. Use April break to study. Buy a book and do it. Listen to Ms. Heldman.
  • Study for the tests with your classmates. They probably know all the stuff you forgot and vice versa.
  • Take notes on the notes we took in class for every unit, and to definitely save a few problems on each problem set for studying for the unit tests. The tests I did worst on were the tests that I didn't practice AP problems in preparation for. Definitely with units that require a lot of math and not just memorization are the units that you should do a lot of practice problems for.
  • If you understand a concept, do not spend your time reviewing that part of a unit. If you are struggling with a topic it is important to put in the time to go for extra help or spend extra time studying that concept because most likely it will come back in later units if not on the AP test. Also, it is important to learn that getting bad grades is ok and that does not mean you are not smart.
  • Try to make time to do the homework. Go in to review old tests. Before the AP tests, do a lot of practice with the official AP materials. If you feel like you aren't getting a concept at first, that's ok: just set aside a good chunk of time to go over everything, and things will click!
  • Definitely come in for extra help and reviewing old tests is one of the best strategies for studying for the AP test. Also another good strategy for me was to go on the college board do the released free response questions.
  • When studying for unit tests, review by doing old FRQ you can find online.
