BSD school social workers seek to ensure equitable educational opportunities and promote the health and wellness of students, families, and school communities. Staff utilize advocacy, leadership and collaboration to promote overall academic success by promoting services that strengthen home, school and community partnerships and alleviate barriers to learning.
Social Work Goals
The aim of the school social worker is to enhance the social and emotional growth and academic outcomes of students by reducing barriers to post high school success. These obstacles include poverty, lack of basic needs, substance use, systemic racism, behavioral challenges, and trauma related mental health concerns, such as depression and anxiety.
