Below are tools and visuals we use at Sato that may help you support your child with identifying their emotions and problem solving at home.
It is OK to not be in the Green Zone. While the Green Zone is where we do our best learning, it is not shameful or wrong to be in another zone.
You CAN exist in multiple zones at once or be in all zones throughout the day.
The main goal is for students to identify the zone(s) they are in so they can ask for help and/or use strategies to regulate. After a child is calm, it is also important they know WHAT got them from zone to zone. In social emotional learning/therapeutic talk these things would be called "triggers" or coping mechanisms.
Kelso's Wheel provides a tool for children to try and solve problems independently.
Kelso's Wheel empowers children and provides safe and productive alternatives to using unkind words and/or physical altercations.
The main goal is for students to identify the problem so they can make an appropriate choice.
