About Me
I was born and raised in Northern England’s beautiful Lake District region, spent eight years in Philadelphia, and lived in Belgium for five years before moving to Portland in July of 2013. Prior to teaching, I gained my BA in journalism and worked as a reporter, a columnist, and an editor for a variety of publications, both print and web-based. After returning to college in 2009, I received my elementary teaching certification and spent four years teaching at the International School of Brussels. My wife and I relocated to Portland in the summer of 2013, where we currently live with our dog, Riggins. For two years, I taught a blended 4th/5th grade class at The Ivy School. I hold teaching licenses in both Oregon and Pennsylvania and have completed the North American Montessori Center’s Upper Elementary Diploma Program. In 2016, I completed my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction at Portland State University, writing my thesis paper on "Growth Mindsets in the Math Classroom." Outside of school, I enjoy being outdoors, reading, watching soccer, traveling, gardening, cooking, and meditating. After four years teaching 4th grade at Springville K-8, this will be my second year teaching 3rd grade.
