FAQ’s:
Is OBOB required? No, this is an optional reading and literacy program.
Can teams be formed before October? No. Teachers form the third grade teams. The fourth and fifth grade teams are formed at school during an OBOB meeting where all those interested meet and form teams. This is a student driven program. Forming teams at school with all interested students helps to alleviate most social and emotional issues. If issues arise, students discuss the matter with Ms. Larsen.
What happens if a student is absent on the day teams are formed? Come see Ms. Larsen and the student will get help finding a team to be on.
Once the teams are formed can they meet after school to practice? Yes and this is encouraged!
How many lunch recess practices will there be? Depends on how many volunteers sign up to help. Usually we can get in 4 practices.
Are the lunch recess practices required? The lunch recess practices are strongly encouraged. These practices are provided to even out the practice time for the teams. Most teams attend these practices.
Where do I sign up to volunteer? Complete the Volunteer information on the Registration form or email Ms. Larsen. Community Volunteers are welcomed too.
Can a student drop out? It is emphasized to remain on a team and not drop. Before registration forms are signed we discuss what a commitment is, how they are a part of a team and no dropping out. Please discuss what this commitment means with your child before completing and signing the registration form.
Are the OBOB books provided? The PTO has graciously purchased several copies of each book to check out from the library.
Is there a cost to join OBOB? No. Once again the PTO pays for the school registration.
What is expected of the parents? It is encouraged to read the books with or to your child, answer questions from your child about the book to help develop their comprehension, practice many practice questions - see the links above for several practice questions (this can be a fun family time!) and provide transportation to and from the Regional Tournament.
Please contact Ms. Larsen if you have further questions!
