Connect community members to organizations, committees and task forces centered around supporting and building upon the equity lens of the Beaverton School District in Oregon. Click to see equity policy.

BMEC

Beaverton Multicultural Educator Committee


An affinity space for BIPOC educators and white allies. Creates a safe space for BIPOC educators; they also work to create change in the district. White allies are invited to join the BMEC Action Meetings.


Example actions/work focus:

  • Presented an Anti-Racist District Action Plan to Don Grotting and his Cabinet

Beaverton Educators for Black Lives


This group formed in June 2020. It is a group of Beaverton educators who are committed to antiracism at the school and district level.

Example actions/work focus:

  • Review SROs in schools

  • Instituting BARWEs in BSD schools

  • Supporting teachers in teaching about the BLM movement

Gender and Sexuality Alliance

GSA


Gender and Sexuality Alliances (GSAs) are student-led groups for those seeking a safe and inclusive environment to be themselves. We empower and educate others to fully express their gender and sexuality. We advocate for equity and inclusivity in our broader home and school communities.

Beaverton Education Association Racial & Social Justice Task Force


This group meets through the BSD teacher’s union (BEA). This group is focused on making sure that the union is expressing social justice values, and helps support all union members in doing anti-racism work.

Example actions/work focus:

  • District wide equity PD

  • Working to add hate speech protocols to the BSD handbook.

Affinity Group for Disabled, Chronically Ill or Neurodivergent

ADCIN


The ADCIN group welcomes Beaverton School District employees who identify as disabled, chronically ill, or neurodivergent.

Example actions/work focus:

  • Foster staff connections across our district

  • Increase awareness of our strengths and struggles

  • Share resources and strategies to ensure that all District employees have the tools needed to be successful and fully engaged in their position and in life.

LGBTQA+ Staff Affinity Group


The LGBTQ+ Staff Affinity Group is open to anyone who identifies as LGBTQ2SIA+.

Example actions/work focus:

  • • Create an inclusive and affirming environment for BSD students, staff, and families

  • • Inform each other about the challenges and successes of supporting LGBTQ+

  • students, staff, and families

  • • Support one another through sharing resources and strategies

Washington County Ignite


This is a PAC geared towards changing the leadership in Washington County. They are a community of individuals and groups active in Washington County grounded in our shared progressive values. They are dedicated to building power in our community of Black Indigenous and People of Color, LGBTQ+, and young people residing in the most rapidly diversifying county in Oregon.


Example actions/work focus:

  • Transform Washington County through political organizing by supporting changes in leadership to be reflective of the population they serve.

Sunrise Beaverton

Beaverton Hub

Sunrise is a national, youth-led movement to stop climate change and create millions of good jobs in the process. Sunrise provides trainings on many aspects of organizing and direct action planning and empowers you to lead. Justice, Equity, and Anti-oppression are at the center of Sunrise's work and BIPOC, LGBTQ+, poor and folx with other marginalized identities are leaders in this movement. We build connections with like-minded groups throughout Washington County.

  • Voice around issue of removing SROs from schools

  • Advocate for city policy and action to address the climate crisis

  • Community education events on issues surrounding racial justice and the Green New Deal

Asian American Pacific Islander Affinity Group

This affinity group welcomes all BSD staff who identify as Asian, Asian American, and/or Pacific Islander.

Example actions/work focus:

  • Talking about shared experiences of being a member of the AAPI community

  • Creating a safe and trusting environment that fosters community, acceptance, and belonging

  • Sharing classroom and school resources to help uplift the voices of our AAPI community
