BEAVER DAYS
2025-26
2025-26
Dear Beaverton High School Students and Families,
Welcome to the 2025–2026 school year! As we prepare for this historic final year in our current campus, I want to extend a warm welcome to all of our students, families, and staff members. This is a year full of excitement, transition, and opportunity, and I’m grateful we get to experience it together as a school community.
Please mark your calendars for these upcoming in-person events. Details for these events and a more comprehensive calendar for August-October may be found in later sections of this guide.
August 14 -- BHS Counseling Day at ACMA
September 25 -- Back-to-School Night at BHS
October 3 -- Last Homecoming on this campus as we know it now
Here's a summary of what's new in 2025-26. Each item is explained further in a following section.
Start/end times for the school day are shifted 10 minutes later.
Student cell phone use is not allowed during the school day.
An increase in contractors leading to a further parking crunch.
Changes to the cafeteria parking lot.
We have a new turf field and new lights!
District schools can now take credit and debit cards; each card transaction has a fee.
For students and families who are brand new to BHS, check out the sections on Online Verification of Enrollment, ParentSquare, ParentVUE/StudentVUE, Canvas, Chromebook checkout/repair, student pictures, student I.D. cards, fee payment, school clubs, and community partnerships. Contact information for BHS athletics and performing arts is also provided.
A ParentSquare version of this document was sent to BHS families on August 9th. You’ll be hearing even more from us soon through ParentSquare as we get ready for the first day of school. We are excited to kick off another memorable year together. Below, I have included some of the latest videos of the new building which is getting closer to completion everyday.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership, and enjoy the rest of your summer.
Sincerely,
Andrew Kearl, Principal

Our counselors are an amazing group of people who are here to support students. Students are assigned to a counselor alphabetically by last name except for seniors in the BHS AVID program. Please note that we have two new counselors and the student assignments have shifted slightly.
Class schedules for the 2025-26 school year will be released on August 13th.
Counseling Day: On Thursday August 14th, the BHS counseling team will host two help sessions from 8:00am-12:00pm and 1:00-3:30pm in the cafeteria at ACMA (11375 SW Center St, Beaverton, OR 97005). There is limited time and parking, so counselors are only seeing students who:
are missing periods
are missing required classes
have incorrect levels
have incorrect class placements (you were placed in a class that you did not request and wasn't one of your alternates)
If you miss Counseling Day, counselors will be available to help you the first five days of school before school and during lunches. Please be aware that your schedule may change after August 14 as counselors make adjustments and balance class sizes, so be sure to double-check your schedule the night before your first day of school.

We have a new bell schedule this year to facilitate school bus scheduling -- all times have been pushed back by ten minutes. Second lunch now begins at 1:34 p.m so we encourage students to stop by the cafeteria before school, anytime before 8:55 a.m., to get a free breakfast. Students are also welcome to bring snacks if they feel they will be hungry before lunchtime. As a reminder, both breakfast and lunch are free for all students.
Watch your mailbox for an envelope from Beaverton High School containing two 4x6 in. cards with the new bell schedule and the attendance email address and phone number; one side in English, the other in Spanish. Stick a card to your refrigerator to keep it handy. If you've moved since last year, make sure to submit your Verification of Enrollment as soon as possible with your new address so you don't miss our mailing!
Tuesday, August 26th: First day of school for FRESHMEN ONLY.
Wednesday, August 27th: First day of school for sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Second day of school for freshmen. This is an A day.
Beaverton High School runs on an A/B schedule. On A days, students will attend periods 1, 3, 5, and 7. On B days, students will attend periods, 2, 4, 6, and Beaver Lodge, which is an advisory class that every student takes during their time at BHS. Students lunches are determined by their 5th and 6th period class. For example, if a teacher in a 5th period class has second lunch, all of the students in that class will have second lunch also.
We are in the final stages of our major construction project and are excited to open the new Beaverton High School campus in the fall of 2026. We appreciate your continued flexibility and patience as we continue this project. The result will be a modern, welcoming learning environment that will benefit students for years to come.
Our campus was busy this summer. Some highlights:
The football stadium has new turf and an upgraded lighting system.
A brick enclosure was built in the cafeteria parking lot to house a new generator and trash/recycling dumpsters.
The refigured cafeteria lot, 9 spaces in total, will now be reserved for visitors and ADA parking only.
To accommodate the size of the enclosure, the back of the cafeteria now sits higher than the adjacent parking lot. A retaining wall was added and a ramp connects the two levels.
All parking lots on campus are now designated as contractor (craft), BHS staff, or visitors only. Students will have to park on the street or find other ways to commute, such as school or TriMet buses, bike, carpool, or walking. Limited street parking is available south of campus and on Erickson Street. Please allow extra time to find parking and arrive on time.
We'll be moving towards the maximum number of contractors on site as work on the inside of the building ramps up. If you have any questions or comments on our parking situation, please contact Assistant Principal Steve Sanderson (steven_sanderson@beaverton.k12.or.us). We can make it work if we work together!
The Communication and Community Involvement (CCI) Department of the Beaverton School District has some good back-to-school information on their district website. The Need-To-Know Checklist in the middle of the page shows a list of forms that are included in the Online Verification of Enrollment process via ParentVUE. The last section of the page shows applications that are useful to BSD families, including most of the apps mentioned in this guide.
Information specific to BHS Families:
BHS does not have a specific school supply list like you see with primary schools. For the first couple of days, a backpack, inexpensive reusable water bottle, pen, pencil with an eraser, and an inexpensive notebook will be enough. Students will learn what else they need from their teacher in each of their classes.
Lockers are optional. To request one, a student: (a) decides where they'd like their locker to be, for example, by the band room, near the front of the building, Science hall, etc.; (b) visits the main office before/after school or during lunch and fills out a Locker Request form; (c) and returns in 2-3 days to pick up the number and combination of their assigned locker.
BHS-themed clothing & other items will be available to purchase at the Pond (student store) to the left at the top of the stairs in the cafeteria. Open during lunches. They may not have stock until later in the fall so please be patient.
Reporting absences or requesting students to be released is one of the most frustrating tasks related to having kids in school, for both the sender and the receiver. When there is someone new in the attendance chair, mistakes can quickly add up. Here are our preferred methods for receiving attendance information:
#1 --> email: avoids background noise & poor connections of phone calls and voicemail; mail apps now offer translation on the spot; no guessing how names are spelled
#2 --> voicemail or written note: add your signature to the note
#3 --> ParentVUE: too easy to enter absences incorrectly resulting in students being counted absent when they are actually in class.
Attendance Tips:
For all methods of communication, please include your student's full name, ID number, grade level, and reason for the message. Keep in mind a student's ID number is uniquely theirs -- no one else has that number. And, even if you're pressed for time, please speak slowly, clearly, and loudly.
NEW! In late August, each BHS household should receive a manila envelope containing two 4x6 in. cards with the new bell schedule and the attendance email address and phone number; one side in English, the other in Spanish. Save time searching for contact information by attaching a card to your refrigerator or keeping one in your car. If you've moved since last year, make sure to submit your Online Verification of Enrollment as soon as possible with your new address so you don't miss our mailing!
Compose an email with your student's ID number, grade level, and full name. Send the email to yourself and pin it at the top of your mail feed. Now you can copy and paste the data into emails whenever you need it. This is a simple, time-saving practice that avoids typographical errors.
For years, families have asked for the convenience of using credit cards at school locations to pay for sporting events, student fees, and other items. After a year of considering options and the successful testing of the system at two BSD high schools, debit card, credit card, Apple Pay, and Google Pay are now accepted at option schools and high schools.
Each transaction, will include a charge of a 40-cent convenience fee and 3.69% of the total sale amount. This applies to both in-person payments at school locations as well as payments processed through the online payment system. There is no fee to pay by cash or check.
All students in the district may receive one free breakfast and one free lunch at school daily. Research indicates that universal free meals improve student health and attendance. Meals include an entree, sides and a milk. Students must take the entire meal to be eligible for the no-cost option; this is a federal requirement. The district will continue to charge for à la carte items such as milk, second entrees and snack items.
ParentSquare is a communications program used by schools in the district to send mass email. BHS uses it regularly to send informational messages to BHS families, students, or staff. Attention-getting alerts from ParentSquare are useful in emergencies, for example, letting families know to come pick up their students as soon as possible due to poor weather or a utility outage.
We do our best to make our messages clear, concise, and timely. Please do your part by following this link to register with ParentSquare and download their mobile app.
Explore the district's Parent Square FAQ to learn how to customize your interactions. Great information here with language tabs at the top of the district webpages to make translation easier. In ParentSquare you can set your preferences for when and how to receive messages and to automatically translate incoming messages to your preferred language.
BHS picture days are split by the Labor Day holiday this year. School pictures will take place on Friday August 29th and Tuesday September 2th during Language Arts classes. Students will receive their I.D. cards before they go back to class. We'll let families know which day their student(s) will have their photo taken shortly after school starts.
Thanks to the Beaverton High School Success Fund, every student who goes to Beaverton High School can attend all Metro League games for free. A big change for this year, is that students will need to bring their Student I.D.'s with them when they come to school events. When they attend their first game and show their student I.D. card, the ticket seller will affix an ASB sticker to the back of the card, good for qualifying games and events the rest of the school year.
All BHS Students have the opportunity to check out a district-owned Chromebook for use at school and at home. See the calendar at the end of this guide for specific dates and times for pick up or replacement.
BSD provides Damage and Loss Protection Coverage, also referred to as Chromebook insurance, to protect families financially. The $20 fee per Chromebook lets you avoid a $450 or more replacement cost if your Chromebook is accidentally damaged, lost or stolen (only the first occurrence is protected).
To apply for a reduced insurance fee, fill out the "Application for Free/Discounted District Fees" form that is part of the Online Verification of Enrollment process and submit the Online Verification. The discount/waiver will not appear in the Online Payment System unless Online Verification has been submitted.
The district website has relevant, up-to-date information on student devices, such as Internet Safety and Responsible Use of Technology in School, on the page Student Device Resources. (Keep in mind you can translate the text with the language box at the top of any district website.) Please check it out.
ParentVUE and StudentVUE- ParentVUE is a web portal that allows parents and guardians access to near real-time information on attendance, class schedules, class websites, course history, grades, report cards and more. StudentVUE allows students access to the same information. ParentVUE is also used on an annual basis during the start of each school year to verify student enrollment information. To create a ParentVUE account or get help accessing an existing account, click here for directions.
Canvas - The Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) is used by many middle and high school teachers as an extension to in-class instruction. Teachers using Canvas can post assignments, give feedback, and communicate with students. Parents can sign up to have parent access to student's Canvas pages. This allows parents to have real time information about work that is completed or not completed in each class. Click here for directions on how to sign up for a parent account.
BHS Athletics, Cheer, & Rhythm B's
Interested in playing sports this Fall? Be sure to register online as soon as possible. Tryouts begin August 18th. Yes, that is before school starts. Get the details including registration and coach contact information here.
Getting involved in high school activities is an incredible way to stay connected to school and make life long friends. You can find general information about our athletic program at our BHS Athletics page, including team websites, contact information for coaches, registration, and fees.

BHS Performing Arts
Is music or acting your passion? BHS has performing arts electives for all levels of experience. These programs are incredibly fun and they create a great sense of belonging. Click on the links below to learn more about our choir, band, and theater programs.
BHS Clubs
Beaverton High Schools offers affinity groups, clubs, community partnerships, club sports, and honors societies. There is no shortage of ways to get involved. And if you and some friends want to start a new club, you can! Here's a list of active groups from 2024-25.
Some clubs have booths at Back-to-School Night on September 25th. There will be a more comprehensive club fair later in the fall so you can learn about all of the things BHS has to offer. Teacher Jason Sarmiento is our Activities Director and you can always reach out to him to learn more about starting or joining a club.
Volunteer Opportunities at BHS
Donate your time, your compassion, your expertise. At BHS, district-approved volunteers may chaperone field trips, be a timekeeper/line judge/etc. for athletic events, organize/deliver donated food to BHS families in need, work at booths/activities during school events, help prepare/serve a holiday meal to staff, hold an office/plan a project/coordinate volunteers for the BHS Booster Club, and SO MUCH MORE. BHS always needs volunteers. Watch for messages from ParentSquare with sign-ups for volunteering.

Beaverton High School Booster Club (BHSBC)
The BHS Booster Club operates on a larger scale by supporting student & staff wellness, managing concessions (food & drink) at games, running special events like the annual holiday bazaar and signing up/coordinating volunteer needs for smaller scale events . Are you ready for a bit more responsibility, by yourself or with a partner? Come to monthly BHSBC meetings and see what appeals to you. The BHSBC always needs volunteers. Watch ParentSquare and Principal Kearl's Friday newsletters for a meeting schedule. Contact Michelle Hebden, BHSBC President for 2025-26 (president@beavertonhighbooster.com) for more information.
Beaverton High School Success Fund (BHSSF)
The BHS Success Fund works to make a positive, meaningful impact on the lives of all BHS students by fostering greater opportunities to learn, explore, discover and succeed. The Success Fund works to remove barriers by paying for ASB student participation fees, most field trips, and for the majority of athletic, performing arts, and classroom fees. Discover other BHS programs wholly or partially supported by the fund by browsing their website.
Student-Based Health Center - Beaverton High School is fortunate to share campus space with a branch of the Virginia Garcia Student-Based Health Center (SBHC). This relationship will continue into the new building. The clinic offers immunizations, athletic physicals, mental health services, and more. The clinic is located west of the main building in the white, one-story annex building that also contains fine arts and engineering classes. Due to construction, the clinic parking lot is filled with portable classrooms, and visitors must park on the street.
BHS Community Partnership - A group of people from faith-based organizations, nonprofits, cultural groups, parent organizations, service groups, businesses, and district staff that partner with BHS administrators, social workers, and community liaisons to provide goods & services, educational opportunities, volunteers, and more to BHS families. Our community partners are instrumental in providing and delivering food to BHS families dependent on school meals to tide them over Thanksgiving and Spring Breaks.
Chicas - Chicas is the youth development program of Adelante Mujeres, a nonprofit organization based in Forest Grove. Chicas provides Latine youth with the tools to believe in their academic and social-emotional potential.
