Sato 5th Grade Homework Policy
Sato 5th Grade Homework Policy
As a team, we are consistent on our homework policy. Please know that if you would like your child to complete more work at home, there are links in our instructional tabs (ELA, Math, etc.) that will provide your child with additional opportunities to refine their skills.
Flocabulary - Each week, students are given a new set of vocabulary words in the form of a song. Each week, they will take home a packet to complete that gives them practice with the words. These are graded on completion and the quiz they take at the end of every week will be scored for a grade. Students will progress through 6th, 7th and 8th grade vocabulary by the time they exit their 5th grade year.
Reading - Students should be reading every school night for at least half an hour. We strongly suggest that ten of those minutes be aloud so they can continue to work on their oral fluency. Students should know their IRLA color and have a digital copy of their skills card that will prompt them with questions to reflect upon and other reading skills to focus on.
Math - Depending on the lesson for the day, you student may have some lingering reflections or math work to complete. For students eager to continue their math experiences at home, Dreambox is a wonderful resource and one that is also used in the classroom as a supplemental tool.
Social Studies - Optional extensions varies by teacher and unit.
