Formed in 1876, a mere 8 years after the founding of the City, The Beaver Falls Volunteer Fire Department was born. The original firehouse was built on the corner of 11th Street and 7th Avenue and consisted of hand drawn steamer engines, hose carts and a hook and ladder wagon. In 1900, the first trained fire horses were introduced.
In 1914, the first fire alarm system was introduced into the Borough which stayed in service until the late 20th century. April 1917 brought the first modern fire apparatus of the city, an American LaFrance and GMC hose truck.
In 1927, the construction of the new Municipal Building began and concluded the following year in 1928. Shortly thereafter, the Fire Department moved into their new quarters located at 15th Street and 8th Avenue. It is at this location that the Fire Department still resides.
With the incorporation of surrounding Boroughs and expansion of the city, (to include College Hill and Pleasantview) in 1963, the Fire Department grew ever larger. With this growth, the Beaver Falls Volunteer Fire Department has continued a long history of dedication, excellence and servitude to its citizens, and are more than proud to pass this knowledge and dedication to the next generation.
