Important Information

Technology Resources:

  • Google Classroom: We do a lot of digital assignments on Google Classroom during the school day. Please use the parent feature on Google Classroom to keep up with your child's work and see their progress there.
  • Prodigy: Prodigy is an online math game that students are invited to play, both in school and at home. You are welcome to link your email with your child's account to view their progress. They think that it is great fun, and I appreciate all of the math that they practice while they play the game!
  • ThinkCentral: Our math and science textbooks and curriculum resources are available online here. Your child should log in using firstname.lastname for the username and their animals and numbers password.
  • XtraMath: XtraMath is a great way for students to practice their math facts.
  • Progressbook: You can view your child's grades at any time by checking ProgressBook. If you are unsure of how to register your account, please contact me and I would be glad to help you. Grades are updated at least every two weeks.

Homework:

  • Math homework will be assigned each night, Monday through Thursday, and due the following day. We will go over it in class. The homework will cover a variety of skills that students have already learned to keep them sharp, as well as something relatively new.
  • Science homework will not be assigned every night, but it will likely be given at least a few times per week during most weeks. Some of the homework will be questions from the book about what we did in class, while other homework will be worksheets related to our current topic of study.
  • All homework will be written on the class agenda. Please check your student's agenda to make sure that it is written in daily.

In Class Work:

  • We use "Nows" and "Laters" in our classroom, with students being required to complete their "Now" work before they may go on to "Later" choices.
  • Most weeks in math, students will have a math mystery and a couple of problem of the month pages to complete during their "Nows". They will keep these in their red folders in the "Return to School" side and are welcome to work on them at home if they would like, especially if they are finding that they may not be finished before the due date. There should be plenty of time in class to complete these assignments, but sometimes interruptions to our schedules occur. If a student is needing to finish class work at home more than occasionally, please let me know so that we can work to find a solution.
  • Feel free to ask your student about his or her "Nows" and "Laters" each day.

Quizzes and Tests:

  • There will be math quizzes given each Friday that correspond with our math morning work. Other quizzes may be given throughout the week, and may or may not be announced beforehand.
  • There will be science quizzes that correspond with our topic of study. They may or may not be announced beforehand. The best way to prepare is to read along with the lessons in the book during class and to do the assigned homework.
  • Tests will always be announced and should be written in the agenda.
