“It’s been my experience that you can nearly always enjoy things if you make up your mind firmly that you will.” - Anne Shirley, Anne of Green Gables
Monday: Art Tuesday: Music Wednesday: PE Thursday: Skills Lab Friday: IMC
LUNCH/RECESS 11:43-12:25
Classwork Policy: Classwork will be due at the end of the class period, unless otherwise noted. Classwork will be graded on completion or accuracy, depending on the assignment.
Recess will not be a time to complete classwork or homework. I believe students need to be outside (or in the event of indoor recess, the ability to socialize and have a mental break) as much as possible and that recess is essential to their ability to focus and learn in the classroom.

DLR (Daily Language Reviews)- These are assigned on Mondays and worked on each day for the first 20 minutes of class. Students are expected to complete them to the best of their ability and then correct any errors as we go over them in class. Quizzes on Fridays are taken from the reviews. These are spiraled and will reinforce concepts throughout the year.
Vocabulary- Vocabulary will consist of word studies and Greek and Latin roots and prefixes. Words and roots/prefixes will be given weekly along with their assessments. Additional work will be sent home for independent study that will count as extra credit. Spelling counts for all vocabulary assessments.
Spelling- Students will be given a spelling workbook that they will carry with them to and from school. All spelling words/lists, along with the corresponding activities, are contained within the workbook.
The Unexplainable Disappearance of Mars Patel- This is a podcast we will listen to on a weekly basis. It is a fictional mystery and covers our listening standards. Comprehension assignments will go along with the episodes.
Social Studies:
Social studies will be taught at least 30 minutes daily.
Concepts taught are based on Ohio’s Social Studies Standards.
Geography: read and interpret maps and classify different regions of the world
Economics: needs vs. wants, choices and consequences of economic decisions, producer and consumers, supply and demand, scarcity, specialization and trading, contributors to productivity, and entrepreneurship
Government: democracy, monarchy, and dictatorship
Timelines: create and interpret two-tiered timelines (seeing the cause and effect of 2 types of events)
Ancient Civilizations: learn about the way of life of the Mayan, Incas, Aztecs, and Mississippians
Native Americans and Explorers/Early Settlers: learn the way of life of the Native Americans, explorers, and early settlers; learn about the interactions between the Native Americans, explorers, and early settlers; and reasons explorers and settlers came to America
Our lessons are supported by using the Gallopade Curriculum along other additional activities and interactive learning.
As with science, students may occasionally need to finish an assignment for homework that they did not get a chance to finish in class.
