Interested in joining NJHS in the future?
The application process takes place during the first quarter for eligible 7th and 8th graders. If you are interested in applying at that time, there are a few things you can do to prepare yourself as a strong candidate!
1. Study Hard! You are required to have and maintain a 3.7 or higher GPA.
2. Get Involved! Join a club, sport, or other organization either at school or in the community to demonstrate involvement on your application.
3. Help Others! Community service is a core component of NJHS and part of the application process. Take advantage of volunteer opportunities. Volunteer hours will begin counting towards your NJHS application during the summer before your 7th grade year.
4. Be Responsible! You are responsible for showing interest and obtaining information about NJHS. Demonstrate your leadership skills! Therefore, students should seek answers about NJHS and the application process. The application process should be completed by you and only you. If a parent drops off application materials to the front office, your application is considered invalid. Please take responsibility for your role as a student leader! If you forget something, please take the opportunity to grow from this experience and consider applying next year when you have more time to prepare.
New to Jacob Coy Middle School? Have you already been inducted to NJHS at your previous school? Please see Mrs. McClure in room 2508.
Applications are due October 21, 2024 by 2:15 PM to Mrs. McClure in room 2508.
Please read over the application documents carefully, prior to submitting your application. First eliminations are made by those who do not follow directions.
How to Determine your GPA:
In its easiest form, an A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1 and F=0. For each class you have, you assign the correct number to the letter grade, add all of your grades together and divide by the number of classes you have taken. If you have 6 classes, you need a minimum of 23 points, if you have study hall - which isn't graded - you need a minimum of 19 points for 5 classes.
Please note: Honors Algebra & Honors Geometry are on a 5.0 scale. HS Spanish is on a normal 4.0 scale.
