I grew up in the town of Greenville, MI, located just over 30 miles outside of Grand Rapids. During my time in high school I was involved an a number of different activities and really enjoyed my educational experience. I was a member of the school choir and show choir, involved with theater, played football, baseball, and wrestled. It was during high school that I began thinking about teaching as a possible career path. One of the greatest influences in my life was my choir teacher, Mr. V. Without his presence in my life, I don't believe I would be in education today.
Upon graduation from high school I attended Grand Rapids Community College, seeking an Associate Degree in pre-pharmacy. At the time I wanted to be a pharmacist, but after working in the pharmacy for two years, I realized it wasn't my passion. I finished my Associate degree at GRCC and furthered my education at Clarks Summit University, just outside of Scranton, PA. At CSU I applied and was accepted into their secondary education program and began my path towards becoming an educator. I graduated in 2008 with a dual major in Secondary Education and Bible. In 2014 I completed my Masters in Education program at Wilkes University and have since taken a number of other continuing education courses.
While attending CSU I met the future Mrs. Lockwood and we were married July, 2008. My wife and I were offered jobs in the local school district, Abington Heights, where we both taught for seven years until moving to Ohio. At Abington Heights, I had the amazing opportunity of teaching Project Lead the Way engineering courses to 10th-12th grade students. It was also during that time I was introduced to FIRST robotics and began assisting with the FRC and FTC teams. I knew that I wanted to coach and teach, but I always imagined myself coaching athletics, not robotics. For four years I had the privilege of coaching the Cruzin' Comets robotics team and loved being a part of it.
I could not do my job without the help of my wonderful wife, Jessica. I have been blessed with a truly amazing life partner, and she does more than I will ever know to keep our family sane. We have four beautiful children, ages 6 and under, that make our life anything but boring, and we love every crazy second of it.
I enjoy a number of things in my spare time including spending time with my family, college sports (Go Blue!), woodworking, home improvement projects, and being involved in our local church. My family loves calling Beavercreek our home, and I enjoy educating the kids in our community as a part of Greene County Career Center and Beavercreek City Schools.
