Teaching Tomorrow's Problem Solvers

Mr. Linquist

The Beavercreek Engineering Workshop in Ferguson Hall

Welcome to the Workshop! This is my third year teaching Project Lead the Way classes for Greene County Career Center in Beavercreek. As a retired Naval Officer, this is a second career for me (check out more in my bio). I could not be happier to be in the classroom - I truly enjoy going to work each and every day. PLTW classes are an AWESOME way to spend my day.

My goal is to help students develop a lifelong passion for learning and exploring - whether or not Engineering turns out to be a good fit for them. We learn by doing, and that is the focus of each of my classes. This is hands-on, project-based learning that gives us experience - not just knowledge - that prepares us for future careers in Engineering or Engineering Technology.

Our workshop has a variety of tools for prototyping and building, and any student who is currently enrolled in our program can be trained to use them for projects (even non-class projects occasionally). We focus on safety and procedures, encouraging students to consider "what" is the proper tool for the job.

In education, we discover how to be the absolute best version of ourselves.

I have four basic tenets that build a basic framework for my classroom:

1. We learn not just for school, but for life - it's not "just" about the grade.

2. We learn through teaching each other - everyone has something to contribute.

3. We learn by hearing from the other side - Learning to listen is essential.

4. We learn through making mistakes - everybody makes them, lets learn to work through them
