Hello everyone, I'm Mr. Cervantes. I am excited to be your Robotics and Automation Teacher. I will share a little about myself. Before coming to Mountain View Middle School...
I worked all over Los Angeles as a Field Engineer for an amazing company in the telecommunications industry. I had the opportunity to travel and have all my expenses paid. I gained valuable experience and enjoyed the fast pace and ever changing dynamic of problem solving in the field. I worked in collaboration with LADWP, SoCAL Edison, Time Warner Cable and many others on a daily basis. My favorite project was engineering the fiber optic cable run to Dodger Stadium.
As an Engineer, my duties focused on engineering pole loads with The National Electrical Safety Code provisions for the safe installation and operation of aerial and buried power and telecommunications facilities. I ensured our projects would comply with General Order 95 Rules for Overhead Electric Line Construction by accessing power grid schematics at Los Angeles Department of Water and Power and propose changes based on computer generated simulations.
I worked many long hours and would drive up to 300 miles per day in Los Angeles traffic to attend client meetings and visit all our job sites. The amazing company trips helped extend the inevitable...I wanted a change and slow down to pursue my teaching passion.
My experience has led me to seek an Engineering and Architecture CTE credential so I can pass on what I have learned. Currently, my hobbies include; Vex robotics, underwater submersibles, playing video games, working on cars, Transformer: War for Cybertron on Netflix, and playing with my 3 year old daughter...lately I end up playing with slime or Play-Doh.
I live in the Inland Empire with my wife and three year old daughter. My wife currently teaches 4th grade. We absolutely love to watch Battle Bots as a family. My daughter loves to countdown with the referee when a bot gets knocked out! We had tickets to this upcoming season but it was postponed due to the current world events.
