If selected as a WorkKeys Concentrator, you have completed a group of CTE, CCP, or AP courses that satisfy a "Career Cluster Pathway." Congrats! This is a huge accomplishment! There are 16 Career Clusters; each cluster represents an area of industry (Business, Finance, Hospitality, Health Science, Trade and Industry, and more). At Washington High School we have many course options that will help you on your way to the 16 Career Clusters. Students can choose a Career Pathway beginning their 8th-grade year during registration.
"ACT WorkKeys is a job skills assessment system measuring "real world" skills that employers believe are critical to job success. These skills are valuable for any occupation being considered and at any level of education." (Source: http://www.ncpublicschools.org/accountability/act/)
In the 2012-2013 academic year, the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) incorporated the ACT WorkKeys assessment into the curriculum as an accountability measure. All North Carolina high school seniors identified as Career and Technical Education (CTE) concentrators must take the assessment. Students are considered a CTE concentrator if they complete a CTE pathway before graduation. The ACT WorkKeys assesses career readiness skills and may be recognized as an industry credential. State data reports can be accessed at: http://www.ncpublicschools.org/accountability/act/
Students required to take the assessment will be identified in the Fall of their senior year. The WHS CDC will inform students if they are required to test. The test administration will take place on WHS's campus in the Fall and Spring semester.
