My family and I at a Mankato Moondogs Baseball game in the summer of 2017 (Paul, William, Sylvia)
I currently teach elementary music to grades K-5 at Blue Earth Area Schools. I began teaching here in 2012 and have enjoyed serving this district and getting to know the students and community members here.
I graduated magna cum laude with distinction in 2009 with a degree in K-12 Vocal and Classroom music from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN. From there, I got my first position teaching general music to grades K-6 in Waterville-Elysian-Morristown.
In 2016, I graduated with my masters in Elementary Music Education with a concentration in the Kodaly method from the University of St. Thomas. This has formed my teaching philosophy and please check out the rest of the website for more information on the Kodaly method.
I grew up in Denver, Colorado and was involved in music from a very young age. I started taking piano lessons at age 5 and still continue pursuing this passion by practicing at home, playing in school, and teaching piano lessons after school. I was also in many children's choirs and musicals throughout my school career.
I met Paul Johnson (the 6-12 choir director) at St. Olaf College in 2005 and we were later married there in June of 2009. We moved to Blue Earth, MN in 2012 and have remained in the same house. We love living here! We were blessed with boy-girl twins in April 2015. Their names are William and Sylvia and they are the light of my life. I love spending time with my family, doing anything outdoors, running, singing, playing piano, reading, crocheting, and dreaming about remodeling our house ;)
I am so looking forward to this coming school year. Please contact me with any questions about curriculum and what your child is doing in music class.
