One of my proudest pieces of writing during my junior year was an analysis paper I wrote in Comp class about the stigma surrounding car modification. I researched the history of custom car culture, media, and even legal issues tied to modified vehicles, and the idea that car modification is reckless or irresponsible by highlighting its creativity, technical skill, and cultural roots. This assignment connects directly to the JAGS pillar Communicate Ideas because it allowed me to take a passion of mine and turn it into a final product of over 2 months of work. My artifact is an image of Christopher Carroll of TurboKraft Customs who I interviewed for another perspective of my topic.
During our JAGS trip to Europe, we explored many different things in 5 different countries. What stuck with me the most was the eye-opening historical background of every place that we visited. In Europe, I was truly able to investigate the world and explore history from a different perspective outside of the American view. My artifact is of a tomb of someone who I truly don't remember, but the sight of the historical significance will remain with me forever
This year was my second season playing volleyball for the high school, and it brought light to what a sport can truly do for you on and off the court. With it being my second season, I was much more present as a team player. I took the role of captain of the team, which required me to take more action for myself and my teammates. This experience connects to the JAGS pillar Take Action because it taught me how to be an active, reliable part of something bigger than myself. My artifact is a team photo from our season, because it represents the team that I was a part of and the bond, growth, and effort we gained by taking action.
As one of our final large projects for my second year of Spanish, we were tasked with fully embracing the language by making an advertisement completely in Spanish. This project forced us to investigate Spanish culture to see what products we wanted to advertise and what we needed to say to complete it. My artifact is simply a picture of me in the outfit that I had to wear for the video which was not the smartest choice as I had to wear sweatpants and a hoodie on one of the hotest days of this year so far.
In my college algebra class, we learned more than just the curriculum that was required. We often had to complete assignments or projects with our fellow classmates. This forced us to learn to communicate ideas with each other to achieve a shared goal, typically a good grade on the assignment. My artifact that I chose to represent this is an assignment that required us to walk around the hallways and find answers to math problems as a group, to try to be the first ones to finish it. This task often made us communicate with each other more than we typically would.
