2021-2022 PoP Information

How do we practice for the tournaments?

The writers will meet weekly to work on developing and advancing their writing skills. Students will write to a prompt one week and then will work on skill-building activities that enhance their writing the following week.

How do POP tournaments work?

The first tournament is the District tournament in January. There are 3 writing rounds, each round is 40 minutes. A new, cold prompt is given at the beginning of each round and the students must write to that prompt. Writers cannot bring any notes, devices, or stories that are written prior to the tournament into the writing rooms. After the rounds are scored, those placing in the top portion of the students will advance onto the Regionals. Those who advance at the Regionals round advance to the State Competition. If a writer does not advance to the next tournament, we encourage him/her to continue coming to practice and working on his/her writing skills and ability.

The team of writers will miss school on the dates of the District and State Tournaments. Each student is responsible for contacting his/her teachers and making up all work from classes.
