This year we completed a project with people from across the world as a part of the International Friends Conversation Partners Program at Kent State University. This was the first year of the program. Our assignment was to work together to create a research project where we explored and answered a question about a topic of our choice. My group chose to explore adoption and the human rights violations within it. I worked with two students from my own school, Jackson High School, one student from Kent State, who is originally from Uganda, a student from Brazil, and a student from Rwanda. Throughout the year, we had virtual meetings in which we planned out our project, discussed our findings, and talked about our research paper as we were writing it. We also were able to get to know each other! Below is our finished research project:
This year we participated in the International Friends Conversation Partners Program again. I was paired with three students: a student from Kent State and two students from Rwanda. I did not have a student from Jackson this year in my group. The assignment was the same as last year; we had to pick a topic to research and complete a project on it. After talking with my group members, we decided to research the experiences of people in the foster care systems of the United States and Rwanda. My group member from Kent State actually used to be in the foster care system, so she was able to give a great perspective on this topic. Throughout the school year, we had virtual meetings where we discussed our project, worked on our project, and learned about each other. Below is our final project:
