JAGS Pillar: All 4 Pillars
My sophomore year of JAGS I made a documentary that covered healthcare around the globe. Myself, and three others, made this documentary over the course of a few weeks. The inspiration for this project was the Costa Rica trip we had gone on a few months prior with JAGS. Unfortunately, I had to visit the ER during the trip due to an accident from white water rafting. Once it came time to brainstorm ideas, I wanted to focus on healthcare due to my experience because it was vastly different than the systes in the United States. We made a rough draft and began obtaining experts for interviews to gain credibility. We covered Costa Rica, United States, Canada, and Togo due to their vastly different forms of healthcare. We included interviews as well to show research behind our footage. For our interviews, we used an ER doctor from the U.S. to disucss America and Canada's healthcare. For Togo, one of my group member's had a friend who went to Africa to work as a missionary and experienced practicing medicine there. For Costa Rica, my group used Mr. Knopick and myself to share our experience.
This project correlated to all of the pillars of JAGS, which are recognize perspective, communicate ideas, take action, and investigate the world. This project was such a fundamental part of shaping me as a student because it hits all of the core values of JAGS. We had to take action by reaching out to experts for interviews. By doing this, we communiated ideas because we had to connect witht he experts. We shared experiences and stories to put into our documentary. I also recognized different perspectives throughout this project because I learned about a new topic within new countries. Prior, I did not have a clue what Togo's healthcare looked like, or even Canada's. I knew Canada had free healthcare, but there are also cons to their system, which I would not know if I had not of recognized this. The whole project itself investigated the world because we highlighted four different countries and their unique systems to provide healthcare.

JAGS Pillar: Communicate ideas
During my sophore year, I did a grouo project with three others to highlight important events during America. Specifically, I chose to discuss the differences between President Wilson's and Roosevelt's presidencies. I mainly focused on the issue of expansion during this time period, which was the early 1900s where the United States was looking at tropical communities, like Puerto Rico. The main goal of the proejct was to make your writing sound as if you were writing a newspaper that the whole town would want to read. When writing my articles, I chose to act as if people during this time period were reading the latest gossip in town, which was the contrast between the two president'ts approach to expansion. I wanted to mimic reality, how we have large social corporations that stir drama, like TMZ. I also chose to focus on Secretary of state, Willian Jennings Bryan. I added him for my articles because he created a system of peaceful treaties, which I wanted to mimic the idea of newpapers giving shoutouts to those in the community.
This newspaper project corresponds to the pillar of JAGS to recognize perspectives. This project taught me to recognize the different views people have based on historical figures. Prior to this proejct, I always viewed presidents as great historial figures that did great things. However, after researching and creating the newspaper, I realized that not every historial figure, American or not, may not be held in the greatest light. I learned that forming my own opinions was crucial when interpreting history. Some view Roosevelt's attempts to "save" Filipinos as a great gesutre, while others view it to be insulting to the culture, and just another way of Ameriacn expansion. This proejct prepared me to create other projects, like the thumbnail for my documentary project

JAGS Pillar: Investigate the world and communicate ideas
During my sophomore year, I went to Puerto Rico for spring break with my family. While there, we explored the beautiful beaches and towns of Old San Juan. We went to El Parque de Las Palomas, which is a park specifically for pigeons. The pigeons would land on us as we stood, and didn't mind people. Some even landed on my dad's head. One of my favorite parts of Puerto Rico was visiting the old forts during the wars. One of the forts was called San Felipe. Much of the stone was original, which was amazing to see such architecture still standing. My family and I also went to La Playa de Candado, which is a beautiful beach. We were able to swim with wild manatees, some of which just had their babies. One of my favorite parts was experiencing the local cuisine. Fortunately, we made friends with one of the hotel workers named Hector. He told us the best places to go for authentic Puerto Rican food, and also a cultural experience. I was also able to speak Spanish with the locals almost every day. I ordered my food in Spanish, and also talked with local business owners in Spanish.
My trip to Puerto Rico aligns with two pillars of JAGS, which are to investigate the world and communicate ideas. During my trip, I explored the forts and town of Old San Juan to the point I was able to memorize the layout. I investigated local businesses and steered away from large franchises to experience an authentic shop in Puerto Rico. I also communicated with the locals and shared experiences. Hector and my family became good friends by the end of the trip. We shared our ideas, culture, and experiences living in different parts of the world. This trip prepared me for other trips as well, like the Europe trip. Experiencing different cultures has allowed me to be more globally competent. I also feel as though my spring break trip made me appreciate being able to communicate with others, despite a language barrier.

JAGS Pillar: Recognize perspectives
In my sophomore year of Spanish, I completed a project that gave an overview of my life. The goal of the assignment was to present facts about your life that you remember using the past participle conjugation in Spanish. For my project, I used facts such as I was born in Columbus, I love bike riding, and my favorite show to watch as a child was Scooby-Doo! This project was an important part of Spanish III because I was able to learn important details of my classmates' childhood, and also get to know them better, as this was towards the beginning of the year.
This project correlates with a pillar of JAGS, specifically to recognize perspectives. This project broadened my perspective of my classmates, and also made me more aware that everyone's background is unique. I was able to learn the origins of some of my classmates, which was really interesting to see their cultures. This project also helped me connect with my classmates. Some of my other classmates also enjoyed watching silly cartoons, which gave me a special connection and new friends. Normally, I do not make friends quickly, but this project made me want to learn about others in my other classes, and throughout the years to come.

JAGS Pillar: Take action
In my sophomore year of JAGS, I completed the JAGS Chemistry course. During the year, I made a ceiling tile with the scientific number, Avogrados's number. For this project, the theme was Sherlock Holmes. We had the option of creating a stuffed mole that was dressed like Sherlock Holmes, creating a rap song, painting a ceiling tile, or doing something other than that that was creative. I chose to do the ceiling tile and then paint it. For this project, I had to show off my artistic abilities, which are nonexistent.
The mole day project revealed my abilities to take action. This project required me to supply art materials, spend time after school, and also work on time management. I had to take action by getting the art supplies and also talking with my teacher about obtaining the ceiling tile. This project helped me bring out my creative side because I am not very artistic. I enjoyed designing the mole's clothes, which I did not think would be a blast to make. I was also able to explore science on a deeper level. The number is extremely important in chemistry, which we also had to research. Overall, the workload and action I took during this project helped me prepare for other artistic projects in the future.
