Central Idea: Plants grow and change and are a resource for other living things.
For the second unit of inquiry, the students will take a deeper look into how we can share the planet by inquiring into how plants grow and become a resource for other living things. Students will inquire into the key concepts of change, connection, and responsibility using the following lines of inquiry: how plants grow and change; what plants provide for living things; and caring for plants. Learning about plants can help preschoolers develop empathy for the environment.
As part of the inquiry, the children will explore their own environments to look at the various plants around them. The students will be encouraged to ask questions, discover how plants grow, and observe the different properties and parts of plants. They will be given opportunities to have engaging activities such as gardening, and learn from different resources on how we can take care of our environment today.
As a response to the story of The Lorax, the students were asked to reflect and take action on the things that they can do to take care of the earth. Through illustrations, they were able to show their ideas and communicate creative ways on how they can do this.

The children practice their research, communication, and self-management skills as a culmination of our unit of inquiry. They learned how their plants are used as resources and chose the plant products to create in class. A Plant Fair was held as they shared their research to the school community through a book, poster, or demonstration.
