Special Education Department

Welcome to the Burlington-Edison School District, where we celebrate the diversity our exceptional learners bring to our system. We are a district striving to create a P – 21 Program with the shared goal that by the end of the B-ESD experience, learners should be able, on their own, to

  • successfully access opportunities to learn, develop areas of individual interest, secure employment, and the utilize the resources necessary to be active members of their community.
  • persevere when their disability makes learning, employment, and community involvement challenging.
  • practice self-advocacy skills to access services and help others understand their unique needs and strengths.

Childfind is a program for developing and implementing awareness and screening activities for the purpose of locating, identifying, and evaluating resident students, or students enrolled in a K-12 private school in Burlington-Edison, who are suspected of having a disability.

The Special Programs Department helps families determine if their student(s) are in need of receiving special education and related services. These procedures encompass students aged birth through 21 regardless of the severity of the disability.

Families living in Burlington-Edison with a child between birth and 21 years of age may bring questions or concerns about how the child is developing to their school or the Special Programs Office at 360-757-3311 ext. 1012.

If your family is living in a temporary situation you may contact the district where you are currently staying for a screening.
