School nurses are integral members of the education team, playing a key role in promoting health and helping students to improve learning readiness by working with staff, students and their families. In addition, school nurses develop Emergency Care Plans for students with diabetes, seizures, and life threatening allergies. They also develop Individual Care Plans for other health conditions and medically fragile students. School Nurses help assess students who are being evaluated for Special Education. We are responsible for state mandated Vision and Hearing Screening each year. And, we contribute to 504 accommodation plans working closely with school counselors. School Nurses work closely with local health departments regarding communicable diseases and immunization compliance in schools.

SPARC is committed to laying a foundation for a child’s lifelong success by providing accessible and comprehensive early intervention, education, therapy, and family support services for children with developmental delays, disabilities, or complex health conditions.
To keep students in class and ready to learn, our district follows evidence-based guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the National Association of School Nurses (NASN):
No "No-Nit" Policy: Students with nits (eggs) but no live lice are not excluded from school.
Confidentiality: We prioritize student privacy. If live lice are found, the parent is notified, and the student may remain in class until the end of the day to begin treatment at home.
Notifications: Our Nurses send out informational letters to all families in the fall and spring. We do individual notifications to families if lice is found present on thier student and proivide guidance and infomation.
