Phonics Videos Notes:
In Kinder: Letter recognition and phoneme awareness were predictors of reading comprehension 10 years later
Phonics instruction: Begins with a sequence of phonological awareness, clear sequence of phonics patterns (letter recognition, letter sounds, letter/sound patterns, morphology). Using direct, explicit instruction from the sequence and books provided. Some of the texts needs to include the phonics patterns being taught.
Systematic Phonics (Analytic and Synthetic): Analytic means that students use word families to learn sounds and sight words and Synthetic teaches students word parts and how to put all the parts together with blending sounds together. Both of these types of instruction will provide the same results if they are done in a systematic way.
Use the Marilyn Adams Book: Phonemic Awareness in Young Children that is provided with all Kinder Materials with ARC to support sequence and phonics instruction support
Remember that the IRLA tells you which phonics lessons are needed and in which sequence. This will inform which lessons to go to in the toolkit and this can be used as your phonics sequence along with the Adams book.
