Hello parents. I hope these activities are helpful, as we try together to determine, and provide, the best distance learning plan for your child and your family.
It is very important to me that you understand that I do not want you to feel like your child's Speech-Language Pathologist at this time! My goal during this time is to help you feel empowered and comfortable working with your child toward maintaining their current speech and language skills. While progress is likely to happen with many children, it is not my ultimate goal.
I will not ask you to teach your child any new speech or language skills that we have not addressed together. If you have any questions or need assistance here is my contact information: Email: scottc@bdusd.org

Click on the link to go to a great website with communication support along with some videos to assist with using them. You can take a screen shot of the communication board and have it on a phone or tablet for your child to be able to use instead of a printed copy.
Here is a video of a singer the students love when we do our Speech /OT groups. Talk about the steps to washing hands.
Here is an opposites video that your child should recognize. A great language activity to do is to give your child a word and then say the opposite. For example when walking you stop and say "stop" and then wait for your child to tell you to "go" or with lights "on" and "off."
Here is Brown Bear video that is another great language activity. See if your child will say the song or the words along with the singer. At school, the kids love listening to and singing along to the songs. Have fun!
This is one of my favorite videos for adults to watch to help understand the amount of modeling and trials a child needs who uses alternative communication.
This is a fun song/book that uses picture symbols to help with building your child's language skills. Enjoy!
The kids love the No David books - A great way to get your child talking and signing along with this book and song.
